Cartridge Brewing kicks off Oktoberfest season

Cartridge Brewing Oktoberfest stein

Oktoberfest in Munich runs from September 17 through October 3 this year, but many breweries consider the beginning of September (or even earlier these days) to be Oktoberfest season. Ohio’s Cartridge Brewing is no exception. The brewery kicked off the season with two special beers and a stein promo.

Details:

As a brewery with a history of producing German lagers and Munich-style beers, it should come as no surprise that Cartridge would kick off the month will a tribute to all things Oktoberfest. Like other area breweries, it’s Rhineland season – and Cartridge has come out of the gate strong.

Back on tap are the brewery’s duo of fest favorites, finely tuned and better than ever: Panzer (Festbier), a “super Helles” and modern malt showcase that’s hoppy, smooth and rich; and Sherman (Oktoberfest), Panzer’s brother-in-arms and a bigger, bolder version of the classic style with a subtle hop finish.

“Sherman is an aggressive version of the traditional Oktoberfest, rolling over into the Bock range,” says Adam Mills, head brewer. “While Panzer is more in line with what you’d see in a modern interpretation of that style – malty and easy-drinking.”

The pair are the starring anchors in the brewpub’s “Brewer’s Choice: Taste of Germany” flight being offered this month, but Panzer Festbier has already secured an extra accolade – winning the first round of Station Family + BBQ’s Oktoberfest Showdown, outmatching entries from Braxton, Wiedemann’s, Taft’s, and Northern Row.

“We’re excited to be part of more of these beer battles against such great competition,” says Mills. “And even more thrilled that Panzer won the night at this Wyoming fave.”

Cartridge currently has another four German-centric beers on tap – Bavarian styles that celebrate our area’s historic beer-baron-born roots – including Prost (Munich-style Dunkel), Stealth (Blonde Bock), Smokestack (Smoked Golden Lager/Rauchbier), and Up the Hill (Munich-style Helles). Their also featuring a traditional German spritz cocktail (Hugo), as well as a chef-inspired classic Jägerschnitzel created just for this month.

But what’s an Oktoberfest without a proper stein of bier? Cartridge has that covered, too. Starting today [September 1] at 4p, the brewpub is selling limited-edition collectible RASTAL steins – 1-liter masterpieces authentic to the core, made in Germany and branded with a special Oktoberfest event logo. Limited quantities of these commemorative steins are available for $25, with $10 refills through the end of this month. Last season’s set sold out within hours, so their advice?
