The Brew SiteAdvent Beer Calendar 2022: Day 23: Epic Brewing Big Bad Baptist Reserve (2022)
It’s the penultimate day of the Beer Advent Calendar and we’re in the final stretch! It also happens to be my birthday today (yes, I am a Christmas baby) and for my birthday I pick a special beer for the day’s selection, one that I want to drink. As it happens I just received a bottle of Big Bad Baptist Reserve, the 2022 edition, from Epic Brewing from friends as an early birthday present—so here we are!
Big Bad Baptist is a hefty imperial stout that Epic is perhaps best known for, at least hereabouts; the brewery is located in Salt Lake City, Utah and in fact produces a line of specialty editions of BBB each year. For the Reserve edition, Epic says:
Every year our brewers set aside some of the best tasting barrels to make a special blend for Big Bad Baptist Reserve, and the 2022 rendition is Bigger & Badder than ever.
Sourced from Vapor Distilling, the bourbon barrels contribute a deep oak characteristic with subtle notes of vanilla and caramel, while the single-malt barrels contribute a mild but recognizable peated smokiness. Fewer than 600 cases of this rare release will be produced.
It’s a milestone birthday this year, so what better way to celebrate than with a milestone beer? Cheers!
