Advent Beer Calendar 2022: Day 22: Volcelest Bière De Noël

Today’s Advent beer pick takes us to France, where outside of Paris the Brasserie de la Vallée de Chevreuse brews its line of Volcelest beers. The brewery offers two seasonals in addition to its core lineup of nine beers, one for spring and one for Christmas, of course—Volcelest Bière De Noël.

This Bière De Noël is 7% alcohol by volume with 21 IBUs, and is a spiced ale reminiscent of a Belgian-style witbier with coriander and orange peel. The (translated) description from the website says, “Soft, warm amber, slightly spicy with coriander and orange peel, it will be perfect to accompany your winter evenings.” It’s also certified organic, as are all of the Volcelest beers.

I mentioned with yesterday’s beer the classic French Christmas dessert, bûche de Noël (Yule log), and I’ll call it out again today as a pairing for this French specialty ale; I suspect the orange and coriander will pair well with the filled cake. Joyeux Noël!
