A host of new Bend beer releases

Boneyard Beer Gumball IPA release

News about new beer releases from four different Bend breweries came down the wire today, so I thought I’d round it all up into one aggregate post. There’s some great stuff coming out of Bend (as usual!) so you’re going to want to be here to check things out.

Boneyard Beer

Boneyard has been knocking it out with collaborations of late (such as its Lupulin DIPA with Altamont Beer Works, and the Milano Italian Lager with Italy’s Birrificio Lambrate), and its latest coming out is with another beer geek favorite brewery.

Boneyard is releasing Gumball IPA, a collaboration beer with Indiana’s 3 Floyds Brewing, on Thursday, February 20, at 4:00 p.m. at the Boneyard Pub. The beer will be released both on draft and in cans and the brewery says, “When the gangster cats of 3 Floyds Brewing are in town, you show ’em the hops and immediately lay down a killer IPA that will bespoke for ages, this beer is well balanced and hits all phases.”

The beer is 6.9% ABV and 60 IBUs. The Facebook event page for the release is here.

Crux Fermentation Project

Crux announced two new packaged beers to its lineup today: Crux IPA and All Worked Up Barrel-Aged Wheatwine.

CRUX IPA | An Everyday India Pale Ale | 5.8% ABV 50 IBU

Consider Crux IPA your go-to for good times done right. Low on bitterness and high on drinkability, this everyday IPA boasts a deliciously dank dose of whole flower CTZ hops with a touch of Galaxy, Mosaic, and Comet for a perfectly juicy finish that’s pure, hoppy refreshment. Keep this new classic close, it’ll never let you down.

All Worked Up | Wheatwine Aged in Chardonnay Barrels | 12.5% ABV

There’s no substitute for brewing things right, and the six months of patience as this rare breed blossomed in the barrel was the least of our endeavors to deliver this no-frills interpretation of an American wheatwine. This labor-intensive strong ale delivers delicate notes of candied fruit, caramel, and vanilla with a well-rounded mouthfeel worth getting all worked up over.

Crux IPA is now available year-round and in cans only. All Worked Up is in the brewery’s [BANISHED] series and is being released this Thursday, February 6.

Bend Brewing Barrel-Aged Trade War Export Stout

Bend Brewing Company

Bend Brewing has three(!) new beer releases for late winter/early spring (per the press release): Barrel-Aged Trade War Export Stout, Spot Market IPA, and Mocha Porter.

The Barrel-Aged Trade War is the first barrel-aged beer released in cans by BBC. It’s a blend of “60% Trade War aged in Westward Whiskey Barrels for 9 months, 20% aged in Bendistillery Rye Whiskey Barrels for 14 months and 20% fresh Trade War.” The release party is this Friday, February 7.

Spot Market IPA is the latest in BBC’s High Desert Hop Series, available on draft now and releasing in cans on Zwickelmania. I had a chance to try this over the weekend at the Suttle Lodge Winter Beer Fest (more on that soon) and it was a nice beer, though I’d need to try more than a four ounce sample.

The press release also came with a release calendar, so I’ll actually be posting that and the full release, with details on the Mocha Porter, in a separate blog post.

Deschutes Brewery

Deschutes Brewery Luna Jo Cold Brew Coffee LagerDeschutes announced the official launch of its latest seasonal, Luna Jo Cold Brew Coffee Lager. It’s a collaboration with Riff Cold Brewed Coffee.

Dark beer is a pillar of Deschutes Brewery’s origin story. Continuous innovation, along with the quest to partner with like-minded businesses with a passion for craft, led to the release of Luna Jo, a collaboration with Riff Cold Brewed.

The Deschutes and Riff experimental brewing teams collaboratively explored the space of beer and coffee combinations utilizing cold brew, a fast-growing sector in the ready-to-drink beverage category and arrived at an unexpected pairing of a light-bodied, dark Mexican style lager that matched beautifully with vibrant coffee aromas and flavors of Riff’s Off The Cuff cold-brewed coffee.

Luna Jo is 5% ABV and 25 IBUs and is currently on draft at Deschutes locations and Riff’s Tap Room and will begin shipping to distributors this week. Luna Jo will be available in all markets where Deschutes is sold in 12-ounce, six pack bottles and on draft through March.

I’ve had a chance to sample this one as well and it’s a tasty and drinkable lager with just the right amount of coffee. And refreshing to see a seasonal that isn’t just another weird IPA variant!
