33 Books has the first Fresh Hop sighting of the year — with a new tasting notebook
The 33 Bottles of Beer tasting notebooks produced by 33 Books has a new special edition that just came out—the Fresh Hop Edition. And one just arrived in the mail today for me.
Billed as a “journal for hop-forward beers,” this variant on the standard tasting journal is appropriately green (with green ink inside) and features a hop-specific flavor wheel on the inside. Here’s a pull from the product page description:
Like all my books, it’s packaged in a small, convenient notebook format, but this one is bound with green staples and a snazzy green cover. It’s designed for hopheads, by a hophead.
It’s tough to hold a notepad in one hand, a pencil in the other, and have another hand left for your hazy IPA. Taking notes with 33 Beers: Fresh Hop Edition is as simple as checking a few boxes and entering a few basic facts.
The hop-focused flavor wheel in 33 Beers can be used to quickly recall a beer’s unique flavor long after consumption. For low values of the flavor, fill in dots near the wheel’s center. A fresh hop IPA is used in the example shown.
I’ve always enjoyed this series of tasting books—long since going beyond just beer—and since I informally keep track of all the fresh hop beers I drink each year (usually using Untappd), I’m already planning to use this to do that this year. If I’m ambitious enough, maybe I’ll post pics of each page as a shortcut to reviews.
(I also keep track of all the pumpkin beers I drink each year… maybe the next 33 Beers book could be a pumpkin-themed one?)
