Received: Silver Moon Contrarium 2-pack

Silver Moon Brewing is releasing a new beer in its barrel-aged two pack format this year, a Brett-infused blonde ale named Contrarium. The beer hasn’t been released yet—the release party is this upcoming Wednesday, November 21—but the brewery gave me the two pack which I picked up the other day.

This is a similar format to last year’s Boysen the Wood two pack, in that each variant is aged in different types of barrels. For Contrarium, it was aged in wine barrels: half was aged in Chardonnay barrels, the other in red wine—Cabernet, Syrah, and Merlot barrels. I like this dual-barrel format and I’m hoping the fact that the brewery released another this year is the pattern for specialty releases each year to come.

I also ran into owner James Watts yesterday, and he suggested opening and drinking them side-by-side for the full comparison. Stay tuned.
