Oregon Beer News, 04/24/2017

Oregon BeerWelcome back to Monday and the start of the final full week of April! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for April 24. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): Their Beer’ducation Series of events returns tonight, with a topic on Beer Judging 101: “Ever wonder how beers are judged for all of those competitions? Join our Tasting Room GM, Christina LaRue, as she shares her knowledge and experience judging beers for the past 11 years. Find out what the major competitions within the industry are and what roles the Brewers Association (BA) & Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) play.” Interesting topic that starts at 6pm.

Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene): Last week they announced the release of their new Summer IPA variety pack that will be coming out in May: “Since 2006, Ninkasi Brewing Company, an independent craft brewery based in Eugene, Ore., has built an acclaimed portfolio of well-balanced IPAs, including Total Domination IPA—the top-selling IPA in Oregon. Available May through September, the brewery serves up the best of its IPAs in a Summer IPA Variety Pack. Offering an array of IPAs perfect for any palate, the Summer IPA Variety Pack will include three, 12-ounce bottles of Total Domination IPA, Dawn of the Red IPA, Beer Run IPA, and Hop Cooler Citrus IPA.”

2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis): I hadn’t caught this news previously when it came out over a week ago, but 2 Towns recently re-released their Two Thorns, a fruited cider made in collaboration with the Portland Thorns soccer team. From the press release: “2 Towns Ciderhouse releases Two Thorns, a raspberry and rose petal cider made in collaboration with and in honor of the Portland Thorns National Women’s Soccer League team. For the second year running, 2 Towns combines 100 percent fresh-pressed Northwest apples and raspberries with damask rose petals for a specialty cider that is floral, tart and the perfect pairing for header goals and the rich sulfur of red smoke in the air at Providence Park! Two Thorns is officially being released at Providence Park as the Thorns FC open the 2017 NWSL season at home Saturday, April 15, playing the Orlando Pride, presented by 2 Towns Ciderhouse. Two Thorns is only available in Oregon and is slated to be available throughout the Thorns’ season. Stores and bars can order 500 ml bottles, ⅙ BBL and ½ BBLl kegs through Columbia Distribution.”

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): Their downtown Bend brewpub is getting a makeover, starting next week! “THE RUMORS ARE TRUE: WE’RE GETTING A FACELIFT! On May 2nd, we’ll be closing our doors to start our Silver Moon beautification project. We don’t have a hard re-opening date, so please bear with us.
