McMenamins Thompson Brewery (Salem) is getting into the spirit of the day with a special “I Heart Beer!” taster tray available all day today: “To celebrate Valentine’s, and with a nod to Zwickelmania, brewer Jen Kent will present guests with a special taster tray of several seasonal beers for $7.50. Seasonal beers include Cupid’s Curve (chocolate vanilla porter on Nitro), Red Riser on Whiskey Oak Spiral, Citra IPA, Dr. Who, Ginger Golden, and Raspberry Stout!”
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Today is the release and meet the brewer event at the Hood River pub for the new Brewer’s Share “Mathias’s Main Ingredient Oatmeal Stout” beer from 5 to 6:30pm: “The beer was brewed by Chef Mathias Engblom to celebrate the brewing and culinary arts, and it just so happens that February is Stout Month. Main Ingredient pours with a thick creamy head and the color of dark chocolate. The oatmeal in this stout provides a full body on which to support the darker roast and caramel flavors. The beer has a smoothly rich, complex palate with notes of chocolate, toffee, and espresso. Northern Brewer hops provide a slightly spicy back note in this ale. 5.58% ABV 51 IBU.”
McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has a limited-edition beer tasting starting today at 5pm, featuring “Over the Counter Pilsner”: “Just what the doctor ordered! Pilsners are generally light colored, clean flavored beers with a distinct hop aroma and this beer is no exception. The primary difference is that we’ve kicked the hops up just a tick with some American Simcoes that really shine through the light, smooth flavor of Pilsner malt. You don’t need a prescription for this beer, but it will certainly cure what ails you.” An “American Pilsner” at 5.95% abv, which sounds pretty drinkable to me.
