Oregon Beer News, 05/07/2019

Oregon Beer, Worthy BrewingToday is National Homebrew Day, which got its start in 1988 when Representative David Skaggs of Colorado declared before Congress that May 7 would be recognized as such. If you’re a homebrewer or know one, raise a glass of beer brewed at home to toast the day! I don’t know if I have any homebrewing news in today’s beer news roundup, but keep checking back just in case—I’ll be updating throughout the day.

Worthy Brewing (Bend) is hosting its monthly Charity Pint Night today, benefiting Amity Creek Elementary School: “We’ll be hosting Amity Creek Elementary for the evening and look forward to having them onsite the first Tuesday of May, 5/7/19. The first Tuesday of every month we host a pint night in support of a local charity or cause. From 4pm to close on the designated day of that month $1 of every pint sold will be donated to the chosen charity. We love our Bend community and love being able to give back and support a variety of great causes.” It’s a good day to stop by for some Worthy beers.

Gigantic Brewing (Portland) is celebrating its 7th anniversary today—the 7th for a golden birthday! “Join us for $3 beers during regular taproom hours on Tuesday, May 7. Thanks for your support over the past seven years.” Be sure to stop by the taproom if you’re in Portland today and wish them a very happy birthday!

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every pint of beer sold goes to benefit a local non-profit. In Bend for the month of May, the Pub and the Tasting Room are benefiting the High Desert Food & Farm Alliance, while in Portland, the Pub is benefiting the Kinship House of Portland. Be sure to stop by and enjoy a pint or three to help out if you can.

Oregon City Brewing has its weekly Charity Pint Night today at 5pm, raising money for Autism Speaks: “Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of people with autism and their families.” $1 from every pint sold after 5pm will be donated.

McMenamins Friends & Family Night fundraisers are taking place tonight at a number of locations. These events donate 50% of the night’s food and beer sales to a local organization, starting at 5pm. Here are the participating Oregon fundraisers:

Corvallis’ Mazama Brewing has been building a taphouse in Hillsboro, and today announced the grand opening details: “Mazama Brewing Co. is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of its newest location. Mazama Brewing Craft Beer + Kitchen located at Orenco Station in Hillsboro, OR is hosting a celebration for the public on Friday, May 10th, 4pm-10pm. The all ages event will feature raffle prizes, happy hour drink specials, and live music.”

Culmination Brewing (Portland) has a 4th anniversary coming up, and today announced an upcoming beer for it: “As part of our Fourth Anniversary we are happy to announce our collaboration with @rusebrewing. Creative Conundrum is a Hazy IPA DDH with Denali, Mosaic, and El Dorado. Cans will be available on Tuesday, May 21st.”

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) has a new beer for you this Tuesday: “We are barrel-aged crazed over here, counting down the weeks until Hellshire! So for our #tuesdaybeerrelease enjoy a glass (or bottle!) of X:Tenth Anniversary, a wild barrel aged Cuveé Blend consisting of three distinct threads: Farmhouse Golden with wine grapes, Brett Table Saison, and Biere de Garde.”

Von Ebert Brewing (Portland) has a new Weizenbier available now: “Our Weizenbier is amber colored, like some of the most popular Bavarian wheat beers. This is a very labor-intensive beer to make on brew day; we mash this beer at several different temperatures and then decoct a portion (boil the grain and liquid wort) to create color and malt flavor complexity. The yeast we use is very expressive and is responsible for the banana and clove character! 4.7% ABV · 11 IBU”
