Oregon Beer News for Thursday, January 21, 2021

We’re back with another Oregon beer news edition, for this post-Inauguration Day January 21. I hope everyone’s feeling optimistic! As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the rest of the day with news and info as I find it, so hit “reload” from time to time. Let’s go.

Corvallis Brewing Supply new space and moving sale

Corvallis Brewing Supply is in the final stages of its big move… next door to a larger space. (“After 20 years of business at 119 SW 4th St., we have opted to move 8” to the south into 121 SW 4th!”) The new space is open, and the store will be a having a moving sale; details from the newsletter:

We have moved…mostly! First, it’s really nice to be in a new shop with big, bright windows and high ceilings. We think you’ll really enjoy coming in while you search out home fermentation supplies or your new favorite bottle of beer or wine. For the homebrewers, we are especially proud of our grain room that will vastly improve the cleanliness of the shop with a major reduction of grain dust throughout the store! We also added another cooler for an expanded selection of chillified beers! After 19 years there was a major accumulation of “stuff” that just needs to go to your house or the dump.

Cash-n-Carry, $1.00/pound moving sale!
Friday, Jan. 22nd 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Saturday, Jan. 23rd 11am – 1:00pm

Mystery Beer Boxes – $30
Mystery bags of wine – $20.00
Carboys – $5.00
pretty much everything else, $1.00 / pound! Includes furnishings, mannequins, brewing ingredients, electronics, assorted draft and brewing equipment….some of it new and some of it used, some old and some ancient!

Plank Town Brewing now delivering

Springfield’s Plank Town Brewing is now delivering to local addresses:

You can get all your favorites from Plank Town delivered to your door now! Delivery is currently limited to a 4 mile radius from Plank Town and costs $6.99, no delivery minimums. Order online at planktownbrewing.com/order-now.html

Currently it’s limited to food, but the brewery promises that beer and cocktails will be added soon.

New beers from several breweries

New beers coming out to be on the lookout for—a roundup from a number of breweries around the state. Look for these in cans, or if on draft, consider crowlers/growlers to go to stay safe.

  • Claim 52 Brewing (Eugene): Stuffed: Blueberry Cheesecake is out tomorrow (Friday the 22nd) and can be ordered for pickup on Friday and Saturday. “Conditioned on graham cracker crumbs, cheesecake, and blueberry puree.”
  • Threshold Brewing & Blending (Portland): A new hazy pale ale celebrating the inaugural fresh start: “We’re simply calling it by its current namesake, “C-148,” brewed with the latest experimental hop out of @riversidehopfarms . It’s giving us a lot of juicy peach 🍑 and honey 🍯 up front with almost like a nutty biscotti under layer.”
  • Ruse Brewing (Portland): Several new canned beers have dropped, including Dark Between the Stars (black IPA), and Towering Trees (hazy IPA) today, but also be on the lookout for last week’s Future Fragments (IPA) and Time Signatures (you guess it, an IPA).
  • Gorges Beer Company (Portland) has an experimental beer release with Stout of the Gods: “This year, we fermented our classic stout in Maryhill Winery Syrah barrels on sour cherries. Big fruity nose with notes of cherry, blackberry, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, slight acidity and a touch of brettanomyces.”

Initiative initiates Firkin’ Fridays

Redmond’s Initiative Brewing announced a new Firkin’ Friday tradition starting next week: “We tap a new firkin of Initiative beer every Friday, $9 and your mug will never run dry.”

Starting Friday January 29th with Redemption Stout, aged on Pendleton whiskey oak chips.
Respond with your firkin ideas, if we pick your idea your get to tap that firkin and drink from it for free! Firk yaaa Redmond see you the 29th!

New life for Ochoco Brewing equipment

Prineville’s Ochoco Brewing was one of the casualties of the pandemic, but its equipment is getting a new lease on life, according to this Facebook post:

Hello everyone and welcome to 2021! I wanted to take the time time to share with you all that we have sold the brewery equipment to Neal Cross & Associates who plan to set it up here in Prineville and hopefully get it running before the end of the Summer. This equipment started out at @terminalgravitybrewingco in the 90s, was used by @doublemountain in it’s infancy it’s infancy before making its way to Ochoco for the last decade. We wish the best to the new owners and we can’t wait to taste the first beer out of the tap. Cheers!

No idea what the new brewery will be named, yet.
