2 Towns Ciderhouse: Pristine Peach and The Baddie

Received: 2 Towns Ciderhouse The Baddie and Pristine Peach specialty ciders

Here are reviews for two recent ciders from 2 Towns Ciderhouse that were released this spring, and for which the company sent me samples. The first, Pristine Peach, is available in the cidery’s new large format stovepipe cans (19.2 ounces), joining Outcider and Strawberade. The other, The Baddie, is a limited-edition specialty benefitting the Pink Boots Society.

Pristine Peach

2 Towns Ciderhouse Pristine Peach Cider

Pristine Peach is the company’s third large format (19.2 ounces) release, joining the year-round lineup in its flagship series. It weighs in at 6.9% alcohol by volume, and is crafted with both peaches and apricots. The description says:

Bright and sunny, Pristine Peach touches the peaks of your tastebuds with its cheerful flavor. The smooth subtle flavor of peach combined with snappy apricot are a great compliment to the touch of sweet honey.

I’d posted the full press release about it here.

Appearance: Peachy-gold color, hazy/translucent (looks like juice); semi-active but not too fizzy.

Smell: Summery fruit character, a touch of peach syrup, light honey, apple blossoms. Fresh apricot, apple juice.

Taste: Semi-sweet with a bright, slightly underripe fresh peach note and a stone fruit tang at the back. Peach and apricot are both well represented here, and there’s a light earthiness or nuttiness that brings peach pit to mind. Floral with apple flavors.

Mouthfeel: Semi-sweet, semi-petillant (light fizz), bright finish.

Overall: It’s a good example of getting the peach into a cider.

The Baddie Pink Lady Cider

2 Towns Ciderhouse The Baddie Pink Lady Cider

The Baddie was the women-led release in conjunction with Women’s History Month and benefitting the Pink Boots Society, created with Pink Lady apples along with hibiscus, rose, chamomile, and jasmine. The name “The Baddie” has multiple meanings here, tying in with 2 Towns’ Bad Apple and Super Bad Apple along with (I assume) the slang term that’s come about in recent years.

It’s 8% ABV and a bit from the press release says:

Floral and refreshing, The Baddie is crafted with Pink Lady® apples, hibiscus, rose, chamomile, and jasmine, creating an elevated cider with flair, depth and sophistication.

The Baddie is an initiative of the 2 Towns’ C.I.D.E.R. team (Committee on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Representation). The goal of C.I.D.E.R. is to amplify the company’s commitment to equity and diversity. We believe that “The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people” and we strive to reflect that mantra in our company’s practices and culture.

Appearance: Rose-pinkish color with a bit o gold; active pour with fine bubbles.

Smell: Floral with notes of rose, chamomile; herbal character. Apple is subtle, a light fruitiness with some raw apple skin. It kinds of goes in an almost lavender-like direction (from the jasmine?).

Taste: Semi-sweet with a touch of pie apple quality, and more of that lavender-ish floral character. A nice bit of tannic tartness to offset the sweetness, it’s a nice balance. Quite floral.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, semi-sweet, semi-active, with a floral-apple-y finish.

Overall: It’s tasty, and leans into the flower components.
