Brewer news at Sunriver, Silver Moon

This was a bit of Central Oregon brewer news that came up during Central Oregon Beer Week, so it got lost in the shuffle a little bit: Brett Thomas, the head brewer at Silver Moon Brewing here in Bend, is the new head brewer of Sunriver Brewing, which he officially announced on Facebook a few weeks ago. Up until recently, Sunriver didn’t have a brewhouse of their own and started out contract brewing with Phat Matt’s … Continue reading →

St. Patrick’s Day beer in Bend

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and (partially) at the behest of a reader, I’m compiling a list of the appropriately-themed beers from Bend’s various breweries. Of course, an Irish-themed holiday usually calls for Stout, so I’ve listed each brewery’s house Stout (if they have one)—but of course, it’s the seasonals we’re after as well. (The fest ran until 10pm.) All seven Central … Continue reading →

Bend beer bits

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a local beer scene roundup here, and I’ve certainly extolled the beer cred of Bend, Oregon, many times before. So let’s take a look. Deschutes Brewery: Coming up on June 20th, they’ve got their annual legendary barrel-aged beer tasting, which for $40 will get you in to taste seven different barrel-aged beers (possibly including the new Black Butte XXI) and an amazing food menu. Then on the 27th, it’s … Continue reading →
