Beer Bloggers Conference – Portland

This year’s Beer Bloggers Conference (which I don’t believe I’ve talked about yet) is talking place August 19th through 21st in Portland (Oregon)—relatively close to home for me. The overall agenda is still being finalized, but so far it’s looking really good: a dual-keynote speech from Fred Eckhardt and John Foyston; tours of Oregon hop fields; a Thursday-evening pub crawl organized by Portland beer bloggers; closing keynote from Jay Wilson. Of course there will be … Continue reading →

Portland Fruit Beer Festival

Looks like Portland is getting another beer festival, slated for June 11th and 12th: the Fruit Beer Festival. If I lived in Portland, I would totally go to these

Two beer events are taking place in Portland this weekend that sound like “must visits” for the beer lover. The Beer, Brats & Music Fest at Raccoon Lodge/Cascade Brewing. Live music, no cover charge, and some beers you’re not going to find anywhere else (guaranteed): Honey Moon, a honey-sweetened barrel-conditioned beer brewed in collaboration with the PDX Homebrewers Club; and Gose Summer Wheat, one of the very few commercially-brewed Gose beers I’ve heard of in … Continue reading →

Portland’s getting another new brewpub: Hobo Brewing

Jeff reports that Portland is getting yet another brewpub soon: Hobo Brewing. Hobo will be a microbrewery in the old sense–3.5 to five barrels. For the moment, Hobo only occupies the bottom floor, but they hope to be able to expand to the second floor in the future. I think I caught them pretty early in the process; they seem to be in full R&D mode, just exploring the types of beer they’ll brew. I … Continue reading →
