Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 24: Samichlaus Schwarzes

Today is the final day of the Beer Advent Calendar for 2015! Happy Christmas Eve everyone! For today’s final beer I’ve gone with a twist on an old classic: Samichlaus Schwarzes from Austria’s Brauerei Schloss Eggenberg, a Schwarzbier version of their Samichlaus Classic Doppelbock, a 14% abv lager brewed once a year on December 6 and aged for 10 months before being bottled. The label for the Schwarzes says: The newest edition to the Samichlaus … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 23: Gigantic MASSIVE!

Today is the penultimate day of the Beer Advent Calendar, and it is also my birthday! Because of that I always self-indulge a bit for the 23rd day of the calendar and select a beer that I personally would like to drink rather than a strict Christmas-themed beer. Accordingly, today I’ve picked a beer than is just over-the-top and is one of my favorite styles, from Portland, Oregon’s Gigantic Brewing: their MASSIVE! Barleywine. Other than … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 22: Samuel Smith’s Winter Welcome

Happy Solstice! This seasonal beer is a limited edition brewed for the short days and long nights of winter. The full body resulting from fermentation in … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 21: Parallel 49 Black Christmas CDA

We are getting close to the end, with Christmas day only four days away! Today’s Advent beer pick comes from British Columbia, Canada, and Parallel 49 Brewing in Vancouver: one of their “rarities,” Black Christmas CDA. Normally “CDA” would stand for Cascadian Dark Ale, but Parallel 49 plays with it a bit to give us Christmas Dark Ale. This beer does away with Vanilla and spices common in Christmas ales and delivers hops and bitterness. … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 20: Meadowlark Snowflake Gingerbread Ale

Few sweet treats go with the holidays as well as gingerbread, so it’s always a treat to find an accompanying gingerbread-inspired beer to enjoy as well. Today’s Advent pick accordingly comes from Sidney, Montana, and Meadowlark Brewing: their Snowflake Gingerbread Ale. The brewery has only been open since 2014 so it sounds like their Snowflake may change from year to year as well: A robust amber ale brewed with¬†molasses, ginger, clove, and sweet¬†cinnamon and new … Continue reading →
