Boulevard Brewing refunding some bottles of Chocolate Ale

Boulevard Brewing has issued an apology and refund announcement regarding their recently-released Chocolate Ale (a beer which generated the kind of intense interest in Kansas City that Deschutes The Abyss does in Bend and Three Floyds Dark Lord Imperial Stout does in Munster): This week, some post-release checks of Chocolate Ale, our current Smokestack seasonal offering, revealed that certain batches of the beer had begun to exhibit flavors and aromas not intended by our brewers, … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2011: Day 2: Boulevard Nutcracker Ale

The Christmas season is the traditional time (and setting) for the popular ballet The Nutcracker, and so today’s pick is, accordingly, Boulevard Brewing’s Nutcracker Ale: a rich, malty Winter Warmer that is 5.8% alcohol by volume. Boulevard describes it thusly: Nutcracker Ale is Boulevard’s holiday gift for real beer lovers. Deschutes Conflux No. 2

Back in July I posted about the side-by-side tasting of the Deschutes Brewery and Boulevard Brewing collaboration beer, Conflux No. 2. The spoiler version is that … Continue reading →

Deschutes/Boulevard Conflux #2 tasting

Last night, post-OBF, I went down to the APEX Beer Bar in southeast Portland for the side-by-side tastings of the Deschutes Brewery and Boulevard Brewing collaboration beer—their White IPA (the Conflux series #2). Not only did I taste the beers side by side, I also had a chance to talk to both Steven Pauwels and Larry Sidor (of Boulevard and Deschutes, respectively) a bit about the beer and the processes behind it. Interestingly, both recipes … Continue reading →

Deschutes/Boulevard collaboration release parties

This week Deschutes Brewery and Boulevard Brewing are introducing their collaboration ale—dubbed by Deschutes as Conflux No. 2—in a pair of release parties this week in Bend and Portland at their respective pubs. Tomorrow, the 26th, in fact, both running from 5 until 9pm. You might remember this beer as the White IPA that marries Boulevard’s experience with Belgian-style Witbiers with Deschutes’ experience with hops and Pacific Northwest ales. As part of the release party … Continue reading →
