Highland Ambush

Highland Ambush is a Scotch Ale in BridgePort Brewing‘s “Big Brews” series, and one with a bit of a history: BridgePort first brewed it back in the 1980s as an homage to then-pub manager Stuart Ramsay. BridgePort resurrected the beer December of last year, and added the twist of partially aging it in fresh bourbon barrels. Interestingly, I didn’t read the label close enough before I started drinking Highland Ambush: I hadn’t realized it was … Continue reading →

The Little Woody, Bend, Oregon

Saturday, the 12th, I attended Bend’s first barrel-aged beer festival, The Little Woody (announcement, beer list). It was held downtown, in the lawn and parking lot of the Deschutes Historical Museum, which turned out to be a decent location—I was there early and by the time I left (3pm), it was filling up and I’ve heard that it was elbow-to-elbow standing room only later in the evening. Festival goers will enjoy live music, great food, a … Continue reading →

Raven Mad Imperial Porter

Back in March I found BridgePort Brewing‘s Raven Mad at Whole Foods for a really good price, so you know I had to pick one up. You remember Raven Mad—it’s their Imperial Porter, part of their “Big Brews” series in the 22-ounce bottles, and it’s the one with the 3-D label (and comes with 3-D glasses). I had previously sampled this with friends but had never done a full review. It’s also a barrel-aged beer; … Continue reading →
