Silver Moon Brewing‘s latest beer project was released this week, their “Boysen the Wood” barrel-aged boysenberry Baltic porter which was aged in two different types of whiskey barrels. The original intent was to blend the beers but they liked the results so much, they bottled up both variants and are selling them as a two-bottle package for $25.

The brewery offered me a variant package to sample and review, which fits into an upcoming print article. One bottled was aged in Oregon Spirit Distillers Straight American Whiskey barrels (what they used to brand C.W. Irwin Bourbon), the other was aged in Crater Lake Spirit Rye whiskey barrels. (Both distilleries are located here in Bend.)

Handsome bottles, they are. Watch for tasting notes forthcoming in print.
