Received: Deschutes The Stoic
The newly-released 2015 version of Deschutes Brewery’s The Stoic arrived for me this week:
It’s the latest in their Reserve Series and is a hefty 10.9% abv in strength. I’d tried the sampler at the Pub when it was release, back-t0-back with the 2011 The Stoic and the more-recent Not The Stoic. It’s very good, but needs some aging on it.
Here’s the description from their page:
Four nuanced fermentations. Aged, sequestered, in select rye whiskey & wine casks. Ergo a stoically brewed quad, with the spellbinding complexity of its medieval ancestors.
Hops: German Northern Brewer, Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, Czech Saaz
Other: Beet Sugar, Belgian Candi Sugar, Date Sugar, Pomegranate Molasses
Barrel-Aging: 11 months in Pinot Noir (15%) and Rye Whiskey Barrels (15%)
