Press Release: 21st Annual Sagebrush Classic Posts Significant Donations in Tough Economic Times

The organizers of the 2009 Deschutes Brewery Sagebrush Classic at Broken Top announced impressive results today: the event raised $80,000 for area nonprofits that serve children and families in need. 940 guests attended last Saturday night’s Classic Feast, and 44 golf teams participated in Friday’s Sagebrush Classic Golf Tournament. The event’s success is the result of a unique collaboration of celebrity chefs from across the country, loyal sponsors and party-goers from around the Northwest, football players from three Bend high schools and the dedicated team at Deschutes Brewery.

“Each year, I’m awed by the commitment to giving we witness as organizers of the Sagebrush Classic,” said Gary Fish, Founder and President of Deschutes Brewery, who started the event 21 years ago. “This year we’ve been particularly touched that even in these tough economic times the Central Oregon community members, sponsors and celebrity chefs have given significantly to those in our community who need it the most: underserved children and families.”

To date, the Sagebrush Classic has donated more than $2 million to nonprofits serving Central Oregon children and families in need, primarily through the Deschutes Children’s Foundation.

The Sagebrush Classic includes a fierce but friendly golf tournament at the fabulous Broken Top Club in Bend, mouth-watering food, free-flowing craft beer from award-winning Deschutes Brewery, live music and dancing into the night. There’s a reason guests call it the “Hottest Night of the Year.”
