Barrel aging beer is a longstanding tradition among brewers that has come to the forefront of craft brewing. Partially science, but mostly art, few have mastered the skill of aging beers in oak barrels to impart flavors from either fresh oak or the spirit or wine they once contained.

In it’s inaugural year, Portland beer week has teamed up with Hopworks Urban Brewery and Breakside Brewery’s Ben Edmunds to bring together a panel of experts on barrel-aging beers from Imperial Stouts to Barleywines, IPAs and funky sour brews. This informal panel, led by Edmunds, will discuss what goes into each brew and how you can work with the barrels to impart different flavors from bourbon to pinot to gin and more. Attendees will get to taste 2-3 different rare, barrel-aged beers from each panelist and learn their techniques.

Keeping with the spirit of Portland Beer Week, the Barrel-Aged Beers Panel aims to be both a fun and educational tasting and seminar event.
Tickets must be presold and are available via Paypal here.
