Oregon Beer News & Events, Week of Oct. 23

Oregon BeerMy schedule for the next couple of weeks is a bit wonky, so I’m not going to post the daily Oregon Beer News roundups. Instead, I’ll post the list of news and events that I know about from around the state for the coming week. Today, it’s for this week of October 23. As always, if you have news to share, feel free to contact me, and I will update this post with additional items as I find out about them.

Monday, 10/23

Tuesday, 10/24

  • Killer Matt Fest takes place at The BeerMongers from 5 to 8pm, featuring all beers brewed by brewers named Matt!
  • McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout Tasting Event starting at 6pm.
  • Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Bend and Portland pubs, where $1 of every pint sold goes to benefit a local non-profit organization. For October, both pubs (and the production brewery tasting room) are donating the proceeds to Planned Parenthood. Get out and enjoy a pint or three!
  • Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene) has their Pints for a Cause fundraiser at their tasting room all day long, benefiting Womenspace: “Join us at the Tasting Room for Pints for a Cause! From noon to 10pm, $1 from each pint sold in the Tasting Room will go to Womenspace.”
  • Belmont Station is hosting a Pizza Port tasting on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm, pouring samples and with beer on tap.
  • Cascade Brewing (Portland) has new releases hitting the Barrel House on Tuesday: “This Tuesday at the Barrel House at opening, we’re releasing our new Mulled Apple Sour project on draft, a blend of blond and red ales aged in oak wine barrels for 14 months with vanilla bean and spices, then sweetened with fresh apple cider and honey and SERVED HOT! We’re also putting our Tidal Bore on nitro that same day. This non-sour Imperial Stout features toasted coconut and whiskey-infused Stumptown Coffee Roasters Ethiopia Duromina beans.”
  • And Cascade’s Tap It Tuesday is featuring Chai Wallah, a spiced barrel-aged sour red ale.
  • Fort George Brewery (Astoria) has their October benefit night from 4:30 to 9pm benefiting the Astoria Parks, Recreation, & Community Foundation. A portion of pizza and beverage sales from their upstairs pub will be donated, and a silent auction runs from 6 to 8.
  • Three Mugs Brewing (Hillsboro) has a double beer release: “Fall…time for big beers to make their debut. Death Czar Russian Imperial Stout makes it’s triumphant return on Tuesday. Also, we’re releasing a brand new beer: “No Sour Mugs in the IPA Room”, which is a sour IPA that we brewed in collaboration with Room 122 Taphouse.”
  • Oregon City Brewing has their Charity Pint Night starting at 5pm, donating $1 for every beer sold to A Village for One.
  • Worthy Brewing (Bend) is hosting Pint Night for Sara’s Project from 4 to 9pm, with $2 from every pint sold benefiting Sara’s Project.

Wednesday, 10/25

Thursday, 10/26

  • Killer Bend Night takes over Growler’s Taproom in Portland at 5pm: “For Killer Bend Night we partner with the newly revamped Growler’s Taproom on SE Hawthorne. If you haven’t checked out the new Growler’s Taproom this night will be the perfect opportunity to drink beers from Boneyard Beer – Skin N Bones, Crux Fermentation Project, Cascade Lakes Brewing Company, Silver Moon Brewing, GoodLife Brewing and more!”
  • Portland’s Tin Bucket is hosting Modern Times Brewing for a Coffee & Beer Extravaganza starting at 5pm.
  • The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting the can release from Nectar Creek Mead from 5 to 8pm: “Not too long before opening their brand new, very pretty tasting room in Philomath, Nectar Creak will release two of their lovely sparkling session meads in cans: Waggle Wildflower and Cluster Cranberry & Strawberry! We will feature the new cans, and will have their latest barrel-aged mead, Kriek (with Cherries) on tap.”
  • Belmont Station is hosting the Clock Keeper Bottle Release Party with Ruse Brewing: “Join us and the good folks of Ruse Brewing for the release of Clock Keeper, a modern table beer brewed with Mecca Grade Pelton malt and conditioned with their house Brettanomyces yeast strain ‘Stargazer.'”
  • Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): The release of this year’s Snow Cave winter ale is taking place on Thursday.
  • McMenamins East 19th Street Café (Eugene) has the Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout tasting rolling through from 6 to 8pm.
  • Little Beast Brewing will be at Saraveza from 5 to 9pm for a bottle release and meet the brewer event.
  • Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland) is holding Battle of the Brigades! A Brew-off for Muscular Dystrophy Association starting at 5:30pm: “What are two things Portland loves most? Beer and their Firefighters, thats what! Five of our fire fighting Home Brewers from multiple stations across the metro area have been working on brewing their best versions of an “Irish Style Red Ale”. Come out and support your local stations and vote for your favorite. Brewers are from Portland, Hillsboro, Clackamas, Forrest Grove and Tualatin Valley. Come in on Thursday Oct. 26th starting at 5:30pm and purchase a flight of all 5 beers to try for $8 with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Muscular Dystrophy Association. Each flight will come with a score card and you, Portland, will get to decide the winner.”
  • Climate City Brewing (Grants Pass): They have a five-course Brewer’s Dinner starting at 6:30pm, with tickets costing $60 per person (you get to keep the pint glass).

Friday, 10/27

  • Saraveza is hosting Brewpublic’s 9th anniversary (“Brewniversary”) on Friday for Killer Beer Week: “We’re so happy to host the lovely folks at BREWPUBLIC for their 9th Brewniversary!! Due to their hard work supporting, reporting, and promoting, the craft beer industry continues to thrive and be a resounding success. We’ll have a special draft list curated by the team at Brewpublic and the crew will be here to high five, hug, and thank for their hardwork and tenacity. Congratulations and Happy Brewniversary Brewpublic!!”
  • McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop is holding their Bottle Shop Halloween Party from 6 to 8pm: “Elysian, 10 Barrel and Bourbon County are all coming to this party. We’ll tap kegs of: Elysian Punkuccino, Elysian Snail Trails IPA, 10 Barrel Honey Rye Barley Wine, and 2016 Bourbon County Stout.”
  • Portland’s new Second Profession Brewing is holding their grand opening all weekend long, starting on Friday.
  • Bazi Bierbrasserie is hosting Kwaktoberfest at 5pm: “Artisinal Imports bring you Kwaktoberfest on Friday, October 27th from 5-11 PM featuring a tasting tray with Bosteels Brewery three famous beers: Kwak, Tripel Karmeliet and DeuS. 5 oz samples of each for only $15 and the opportunity to take home a Quattro with you. This is your opportunity to try the infamous DeuS, available only in 750 ml Dom Perignon bottles.”
  • The Bier Stein is hosting a fundraiser with Gilgamesh Brewing for The Terry Porter: “For the last few years, Gilgamesh Brewing in Salem has produced a porter called, aptly, Terry Porter. They donate a portion of the proceeds to the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, of which the former Trail Blazer Terry Porter is a supporter. This year, as last year, we will have an NBA Jam arcade game here to play for a few weeks, and will donate all of your quarters to Doernbecher, too!”
  • Occidental Brewing (Portland) is holding the release party for their Barrel Aged Quad from 5 to 9pm: “Occidental’s first ever Barrel-Aged Belgian beer! This beer has been sitting in Bourbon Barrels for the last four months soaking up rich oak flavors along with notes of chocolate, dark stone fruits, and vanilla. Clocking in at 9.5% ABV this beer is sure to warm you up as we head into the cooler season. First keg will be tapped at 5:00. Hang out with the Occidental crew in the taproom and grab some dinner to go from Urban German.”
  • Corvallis’ Flat Tail Brewing will be at Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop Alberta location for Night of the Living Dammed from 5 to 8pm, pouring through their Wild DAM sour series.

Saturday, 10/28

  • Bailey’s Taproom is hosting the big Killer Beer Week event: KillerBeerFest! “The long week of killer beers culminates with what we feel is the BEST little beer fest in Portland. Each and every year Killer Beer Fest happens at one of the best beer bars in this fair land of ours, Bailey’s Taproom in downtown Portland. It’s during this day that we seek out only the finest craft beers and try to present the very, very best of what is available and even some brews that you might never find again.”
  • Bazi is hosting a fundraising tribute night to the Columbia River Gorge: “On this evening, a collection of photographs – graciously donated by some of the most prolific photographers residing in and around Portland – will be on display and available for bidding via silent auction. Each print is homage to some of the most beloved attractions in the area. 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Friends of the Gorge, who is the local non-profit in responsible for the caretaking of the Columbia River Gorge. Bidding will end at 7 pm and winners will be announced soon afterwards. In addition, a portion of all food and beverage sales that day will also go towards the Friends of the Gorge – 10% of credit card transactions and 15% of cash transactions.”
  • BridgePort Brewing is hosting their HoptoberFest on Saturday: “It’s the BridgePort Original IPA’s 21st Birthday! BridgePort’s HoptoberFest PDX will be a hop-tastic celebration of all things hops, 2 new beer releases and more!”
  • Baerlic Brewing (Portland) is throwing their Day of the Dead Beer party starting at 6pm: “Your favorite Baerlic Beers back from the dead!! Come party as we celebrate the beers from year’s past! Seance starts at 6pm!! Over the last few years we have brewed an insane amount of different beers—some good, some bad and some ugly! As an homage to the times we think we nailed it, we are bringing some crowd favorites back from the dead.”
  • Looks like there are a couple of Saturday anniversaries: Sedition Brewing in The Dalles is celebrating one year, and I think Misty Mountain Brewing in Brookings has one—their King Under the Pumpkin anniversary party (though it is entirely possible that is something else!).

Sunday, 10/29

  • The Killer Beer Week Recovery Beerunch is the Sunday event to check out. “Join Imperial Session for Brewpublic’s annual “Recovery Beerunch” this year at Tournant! We will be offering five courses prepared by chef Spencer Watari (Jack Rabbit, Clyde Common) next to pairings curated by Ryan Spencer (Bailey’s Taproom). This brunch will feature beers selected from the wide and diverse offerings of Shelton Brothers Oregon. Doors will open at 11:00AM, you will be greeted with our welcome beer accompanied by small bites. Service will begin promptly at 11:30AM and end around 1:00PM.”
