Oregon Beer News, 12/09/2015

Oregon BeerToday is Ugly Sweater Day at work, so you should know that as I’m writing up this news post I am currently wearing a great, ugly Santa sweater and thinking an “Ugly Sweater” beer would go great with it. (Probably I will need to brew one.) Here’s the Oregon beer news for Wednesday, December 9. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Saraveza (Portland) is hosting Pennsylvania’s Victory Brewing tonight for a special “blast from the past” tapping: “Come celebrate the return of a blast from the past! Our friends at Victory are coming up on 20 years of making great beer and to celebrate they are releasing some old favorites. So starting at 6pm we are gonna have a party! Our good friend, Melissa, scored us not one but two special kegs just for this event. At 6pm we’ll be tapping some of our favorites!” They have Prima Pils, Golden Monkey, Hop Wallop, and a special Java Cask.

Belmont Station (Portland): Tonight they are holding a meet the author event with one of the authors of The Comic Book Story of Beer from 5 to 7pm: “Aaron McConnell, one of the authors of the New York Times Best-Seller, The Comic Book Story of Beer, will be in-house to talk about, sell and sign this really cool book. Described as a “full-color, lushly illustrated graphic novel that recounts the many-layered past and present of beer through dynamic pairings of pictures and meticulously researched insight into the history of the world’s favorite brew.” It is sure to be a great gift this season!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) welcomes Sisters’ Three Creeks Brewing tonight next Wednesday for a tasting and the Hoodoo Ski Season kickoff, taking place from 5 to 8pm: “Get your skis shined up, grab a pint of Three Creeks! That’s how that jingle went, right? At any rate, Three Creeks and the Hoodoo Ski Resort have teamed up for a tasting & raffle, right here at The Bier Stein! We’ll be pouring Hoodoo Voodoo IPA, Rudolph Red, TenPine Imperial Chocolate Porter, and Crowd Pleaser IPA on tap. The raffle will include a SEASON PASS (!!!) to Hoodoo, as well as lift tickets and other sweet swag.” Update: the Bier Stein got their lines crossed, event moved out a week.

The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release is featuring “Wild Baby Seamus,” an aged Scotch ale: “This week the Brew Crew presents a beer that showcases the special nature of wild ales. Wild Baby Seamus began its life as a strong Scotch ale that was aged in an oak barrel with a wee bit of wild yeast and then cellared for nearly a year. Wild Baby Seamus has grown into a balanced, deceptively strong beer with a tart, semi-dry finish. This unique beer features the flavors of raisins, sour cherries, orange peel, cinnamon, and toffee with an underlying hint of oak.” Starts at 5pm.

Eugene’s Beergarden continues with their Winter Brew Festival today, featuring Deschutes Brewery from 5 to 7pm: “Deschutes Donated a keg and ALL proceeds go to Food for Lane County. Bring can foods to get extra raffle tickets! We will tap Black Butte 27 and Stoic Quad, Munich IPA and more!”

Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery (Newberg): They reported yesterday that this up-and-coming brewery is now licensed: “My heart is very full today! I can now report the brewery is fully licensed by all entities and as of this week we are in production! There is more to do, of course (i.e. building out the tasting rooms), but that will come. It’s all officially underway and we are looking at a big month of brew-days. We couldn’t be more excited. It’s a dream truly come to life. Thank you all for believing in Wolves & People!”

Imperial Bottle Shop (Portland) is now in the middle of 21 days of their Festivus celebration! “Imperial is celebrating the holidays with our first annual 21 Days of Festivus! As a token of appreciation to our customers, we’ll be posting daily giveaways on our Facebook page. Winners will receive prizes ranging from $5 gift cards and swag from local breweries to the grand prize, a $1 growler-a-week for all of 2016 (grand prize winner will be announced on the 26th).” Holiday beers are being tapped throughout the three weeks and will have some additional special events taking place.
