Here is the news in beer from around Oregon for Tuesday, December 6. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today kicks off the multi-day celebration party for Cascade’s 18th anniversary! “In Dec. 1998, Art Larrance and Ron Gansberg opened the doors to Cascade Brewing on the bottom floor of the Raccoon Lodge & Brew Pub. This December, they are inviting fans to join them in raising a glass in celebration of the brewery’s 18th anniversary.” The party will be taking place at both the Barrel House and the Raccoon Lodge, and lasting from today through December 11. There will be plenty of vintage beers on tap and bottles for sale.
Accordingly, tonight’s Tap It Tuesday anniversary kickoff will feature a special, limited blend: “An anniversary Tap It Tuesday live barrel tapping will take place at the Barrel House on Dec. 6 at 6pm, at which the brewery will release the 2015 blend of its rare Pater project. Released once every two to three years, Pater is a cuvée of sour reds, imperial reds, blonds, triples and quads aged up to three years with Bing and sour pie cherries; it features some of the oldest and rarest barrels from Cascade’s sour cellar.”
Congrats to Cascade on 18 years!

Our BEER’DUCATION SERIES of beer menu specials are designed to stimulate greater appreciation and understanding of craft beer through the self-guided experience of comparing and contrasting variations in styles and brewing processes.” Tonight’s beers are the [BANISHED] (barrel aged) versions of Tough Love, so it should be one to check out.
Imperial Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting Portland’s Pono Brewing today for a Mele Kalikimaka party from 6 to 8pm: “We’re kicking off the holiday season Hawaiian-style, and hosting our friends from new brewery Pono Brewing, and new neighbor Musubi. Portland Brewing also announced the final beer in their Home Brewer’s Series to be released, Tim’s Holiday IPA. From the press release: “As Christmas tree farmers string up lights over parking lots across the city, Portland Brewing and the Oregon Brew Crew launch their final collaboration of the year – Tim’s Holiday IPA. Featuring brown and dark wheat malts from the US, England and Germany, this is a special beer for a special time of year. Oregon Brew Crew’s Tim Brinson crafted the original recipe and brewed the beer with Portland Brewing’s Head Brewer, Ryan Pappe. This release marks the finale of the 2016 Home Brewer’s Series. In the spirit of giving, Portland Brewing will donate a portion of the proceeds from Tim’s Holiday IPA to the Oregon Food Bank. Vanguard Brewing (Wilsonville) has a new beer on tap that debuted at last week’s Holiday Ale Festival: “New beer alert! Lee’s Coconut Snowballs, 8.5% ABV, 31 IBU. Based on a recipe from Vanguard’s assistant brewer (that’s him on the right), this American strong ale was made with a hefty grain bill to create a malt forward, copper colored beer with undertones of toasty caramel, toffee and dark fruit flavors. Locally grown Cascade and Willamette hops were used to balance out the malt sweetness. Finally, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes were added during fermentation to fill out the flavor profile of this winter warmer. It’s on tap now.”
Tumalo Cider Company (Bend/Tumalo): This new cidery on the block announced their winter seasonal cider: “Our winter seasonal is here! Introducing “Alpenglow”. Cranberry and cardamon make this new cider perfect for winter. Come out to the Central Oregon Brewfest 2016 @goodlifebrewing December 10th to try it!”
