Oregon Beer, McMenamins Oak HillsHere are the news and events in beer from around Oregon for this Wednesday, November 15. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

McMenamins Oak Hills Brewpub (Portland) has their From the Fishbowl beer tasting today, featuring a big beer in Barrel-Aged King Jester’s Imperial Stout: “This is one thick, full-flavored Stout! Molasses and star anise were added during a vigorous boil to provide more complexity to the large doses of dark Crystal and Dark Chocolate Malts. This brew is balanced by more than an adequate amount of whole leaf Brewers Gold Hops that lend a bit of spiciness. After all that, a small portion of this batch was aged in a Billy Whiskey Barrel for four months. The barrel was provided by the Master Distillers at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. The Billy Whiskey barrel adds flavors of oak, vanilla, and of course, whiskey!” The tasting runs from 5 to 7pm.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting local Evenfall Cider for a cider tasting  from 5 to 8pm this evening: “Situated just at the bottom of Mt. Pisgah on Seavey Loop, Evenfall is recently renamed from Rookshire Lane. The natural production methods and many varieties of English, French, and Spanish cider and dessert apples used to make the cider haven’t changed; some of the trees are over 60 years old! We will showcase draught and bottles of the Wayfinder Dry Cider, Sidra, and Peach Thyme (draught only); come in to taste and support more local cider makers!”

The BeerMongers (Portland) is hosting a Structures Brewing night from 5 to 8pm, highlighting the offerings from the Washington brewery: “We’ve been enjoying Structures beers for some time now, and we’re very excited to be able to present these delicious beers to you. We’ll be pouring: Fuzz IPA, Can’t Sleep Imperial Coffee Stout (made with Case Study Deviation Blend), and Table Beer. Bottles to go: Isolation Saison w/Brett”

Breakside Brewery (Portland) is hosting a “Your Oregon Brew Night” fundraiser with the Oregon Wildlife Foundation tonight at their Slabtown location from 6 to 9pm: “Do you want to support conservation work in Oregon AND drink beer? Then this is the perfect event for you! Wednesday have a beer on us, and join our fall fundraiser at Breakside Brewery. Event entry includes an annual membership to Oregon Wildlife, complimentary appetizers, raffle items, tastings, and more!”

Belmont Station is doing something a little different tonight with a Frederiksdal Cherry Wine Flight Night, and a cheese pairing: “Join us for a special evening with Frederiksdal’s Winemaker/General Manger and Jill of all trades, Anne-Marie Skriver, as we taste these amazing cherry wines made from the Danish Stevns cherries. With these cherries Frederiksdal has established a wine that does not really taste like anything else. It is not traditional cherry wine; it is also not port wine or red wine. It is something very special. If you choose to “elevate” your Frederiksdal flight, our good friend Steve Jones from Cheese Bar has curated a special cheese paring for each of these wines for an additional cost.” It’s taking place from 5 to 8pm and sounds like a good night.

Ecliptic Brewing (Portland) is releasing Frosty Leo Winter Ale today! “Frosty Leo Winter Ale will release November 15th at 11:00am in the pub, available in both draft and 22oz bottles to-go. Come warm up with us and grab a few bottles for your holiday celebrations! Frosty Leo follows the tradition of English Old Style beers brewed for cold months. Big, sweet malts combine with a rich body teaming wiith Sterling and Citra hop flavors and aromas. Frosty Leo is sure to warm all but the darkest matter. ABV 8.2%”

Vagabond Brewing (Salem) is hosting a beer sensory class on detecting off flavors tonight from 6 to 8pm: “Explore 2 of the most common off-flavors in different threshold quantities. Learn how Dimethyl Sulfide and Acetaldehyde are caused, can be prevented, and what about the flavor and aroma profiles that make it unique. Tickets are now on sale online or at the door. $15 per person. Limited seating.”

Widmer Brothers Brewing is hosting a beer release at their… newly re-opened pub I guess? “Join former Beavers football alumni Alex Linnenkohl and many others to celebrate the tapping of Bleed Orange & Black IPA – a bold orange black IPA brewed big enough to handle an offensive lineman and the true Beaver believers.” 5 to 8pm tonight.

Rogue Ales Eastside Pub in Portland has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release today starting at 5pm, featuring Greyhound Brothers: “Greyhound Brothers is a New England style IPA brewed in collaboration with guest brewer Curt Trusner. This big, bold, and juicy IPA is not for the faint of heart. Brewed with copious amounts of Citra and Mosaic hops, this hazy IPA packs an amazing citrus punch reminiscent of freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice.”
