Oregon Beer, Widmer Brothers BrewingHere is the news in Oregon beer for this Monday, November 13. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.

Big news from Widmer Brothers Brewing over the weekend, as they announced on Facebook some big changes for their (Gasthaus) Pub: “Today we are announcing that our pub is shifting from a full-service restaurant to a dedicated pub/tasting room to support the focus on our new 10-barrel innovation brewery and small-batch beer program. Starting today, we will begin remodeling the pub and building a new tasting room to expand our small-batch capabilities and give our guests more visibility and access to our small batch brewery, our brewers and the brewing process. With this shift, we will no longer have an operating kitchen and will be serving light snacks only. While we are under construction, the main bar area of the pub will remain open throughout the remodel. The pub will be temporarily closed for construction until this Wednesday, November 15, 2017. When we reopen, the new pub hours will be: Monday to Friday 3-10pm, and Saturday and Sunday noon-10pm (retail hours will remain the same).” This definitely feels like a loss, and unfortunately it sounds like the pub staff was laid off with no notice, according to the New School. It will be interesting to see the overall progress on this.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland) is releasing Barrel Aged Cranberry Saison this week: “Just in time for Thanksgiving, Lompoc Brewing will release its Barrel Aged Cranberry Saison, part of Lompoc’s Select Series of beers, in 500 ml bottles and on draft. The beer release will take place on Friday, Nov. 17 from 4pm to 11pm at Lompoc Sidebar, 3901 N Williams Ave. Lompoc’s Barrel Aged Cranberry Saison is a Belgian style ale brewed with fresh cranberries and aged one year in port barrels that infused the beer with a drinkable tart and spicy flavor and subtle notes of port and oak. Pale and wheat malts keep it light, while the peppery yeast and noble hops lead to a tangy finish (5% ABV). The release party will also offer a food special of Sage Derby Turkey Sliders, created by Lompoc chef Mark Otey specifically to pair with this beer. Featuring ground turkey, cranberry cream cheese, sage Derby cheese, arugula and a cranberry compote for some tanginess, the sliders will be available for $3.50 apiece.”
