Oregon Beer News, 11/12/2015

Oregon BeerHere is the news in Oregon beer gleaned from all over for Thursday, the 12th of November. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Today is the release day for their Oud Bruin-styled beer, The Dissident! All day long The Dissident will be pouring at the pubs and you’ll be able to buy the wax-dipped 22-ounce bottles of this year’s vintage. At the Portland Pub, they are serving up “offering Vintage Flights of the 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015 brews for $16! (We have an extremely limited supply of the 2010 and 2012, so be sure to get in early to grab a taste before it’s gone!)” I’m hoping they’re doing this in Bend as well, but it’s not listed. Either way, get thee to one of the Deschutes pubs for this year’s The Dissident!

Sky High Brewing (Corvallis): Today is the release day for their winter seasonal, Jingle Balz Winter Ale: “Join us in the TapRoom as we celebrate our favorite time of year with one of our favorite seasonal offerings, Jingle Balz! Come talk beer with our brew team, and stay for your chance to win some swag.” The fun starts at 5pm today.

Portland’s Occidental Brewing will be at Saraveza tonight, for the bottle release and tasting party for their Lucubrator Doppelbock: “The weather is getting cold, the nights are getting long, and it’s that time of the year to lucubrate once again! You don’t have to stay up late studying in order to be a lucubrator though… You could instead opt to come celebrate with us and the folks over at Occidental, as they are releasing their annual installment of Lucubrator Doppelbock! We’ll have them in the house, sampling out their full lineup of cans for you to lucubrate over. We’ll also have Lucubrator bottles on hand for you to take home to help you through those late nights of cramming for finals. We’ll have a special seasonal release from them on draft as well.” It’s from 6 to 9pm tonight.

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has their monthly limited-edition beer tasting tonight at 5pm, featuring Lord Snow Imperial Stout: “Black as a crow, this strong, dark beer was brewed with wintergreen and peppermint candies to give it a hint of the chill of winter, but its massive, thick body and warming strength help to ward that chill off. A huge supporting cast of dark malts- including a hundred and fifty pounds of rolled oats to add a smooth mouthfeel- provide a great depth and complexity of flavor accentuated by the herbal, faintly sweet undertones of wintergreen and peppermint. Grab a pint and bundle up. Winter is coming…” Mint stouts are always interesting but they don’t always work; hopefully this is one of those exceptions!

The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight’s meet the brewer event kicking off at 5pm is featuring Mike Paladino, Ryan Nicolai, and Casey Ellingson from Portland’s Sasquatch Brewing: “This week, the Green Dragon welcomes Head Brewer Mike Paladino and his cohorts from Sasquatch Brewing. Sasquatch’s philosophy is all about community. Whether it’s the beer, or the food, Sasquatch makes it fresh from high quality, locally sourced ingredients while creating a place for all their friends and neighbors to hang out.”

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Their monthly Brewmaster Dinner is tonight, and the theme is “The Big Easy,” featuring four courses of New Orleans-inspired food paired with tasty Full Sail beers for only $40. Service starts at 5pm. “Chef Ryan Callaghan and Brewmaster Jamie Emmerson team up to create four delicious courses each paired with an award-winning Full Sail brew.”
