Happy All Saints’ Day—or if you prefer, Day of the Dead! Here is the news in Oregon beer for this first day of November. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
THE HORSE BRASS PUB TURNS 40! Portland’s—if not Oregon’s—most iconic beer bar is celebrating its fortieth birthday starting today, November 1st, and running through Sunday the 6th. They have a fantastic lineup of celebratory beers (view the event page and list here) including two special anniversary beers: Horse Brass Anniversary Ale from Rogue Ales, and Don the Younger from Russian River Brewing. Hearty congratulations to the Brass; I’ll have more to write about this 40th anniversary this week.
Belmont Station (Portland) is holding a Barrel-Aged Night and release of Fremont Brewing’s Ancient One B-Bomb from 4 to 7pm, for a terrific cause: “As the holidays begin, we want to do something to help those in our community who struggle to put food on the table to feed themselves and their families. That’s why we are hosting this very special evening with members of the Fremont Brewing brew crew to benefit the Oregon Food Bank! Starting at 4 p.m., bring a nonperishable food item for the Oregon Food Bank to receive $1 off a pint one of two Fremont “infused” beers: Bonfire infused with Tart Cherries, Vanilla & Cinnamon or Wandering Wheat infused with Chamomile. The first 100 donations will also receive a Fremont 16-ounce pint glass! We will also be featuring $20/3 oz. pours of the rare Ancient One B-Bomb (while supply lasts) with all proceeds from each pour going to the Oregon Food Bank.” Additionally there will be a silent auction on four pairs of the rare beers with all the proceeds also benefiting the Oregon Food Bank. This is a great cause to support so if you can make it, DO SO.
Portland’s Bazi Bierbrasserie and Imperial Bottle Shop are teaming up to present their two-day Día De Los Muertos Festival De Cervezas starting today. “Día De Los Muertos Festival De Cervezas (All Souls Day Beer Festival) returns to Bazi Bierbrasserie (1522 SE 32nd Ave) and Imperial Bottleshop (3090 SE Division St) for its third consecutive year with an extra day of spooktacular beer and cider celebration. The co-hosted annual event will take place at both locations on Tuesday, November 1st and Wednesday, November 2nd from 3-9 PM. Cost: $5 for the commemorative glass goblet and each 5 oz pour ticket can be purchased for $1.50 or 10 tickets for $12. Most beers will be either 1 or 2 tickets.” Fun all around, and a great follow-up to Halloween.
Corvallis’ Block 15 Brewery is releasing a new canned edition of their Sticky Hands IPA, the “Marmalade” edition, and today Portland’s Bridgetown Beerhouse is hosting the release party for the beer and the cans from 5 to 8pm. “Join Block 15 Brewing Co. for the PDX Draft and Can release of Sticky Hands Marmalade 2016 Hop Experience Ale w/ Belma, Chinook, Amarillo, and Apollo Hops. Alty and Jacob from Block 15 Brewing Co. will be present, and besides bringing Marmalde, will also bring some other great drafts.”
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Spiced Cran-Apple: “A seasonal blend of barrel-aged blonds, wheats and reds with cranberries, apple cider, spices and honey. Aromatics of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice are matched with flavors of apple pie filling and cranberries, finishing with a light honey-vanilla sweetness. 7% ABV, $7.50/glass.”
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Each Tuesday at both their Bend and Portland pubs, they feature Community Pints all day long, where $1 of every pint sold goes to benefit a designated charity organization for that month. In Bend they are benefiting CASA of Central Oregon. Drink a pint or three and help support a good cause!
Baerlic Brewing (Portland) has their winter seasonal in bottles as of today: “Arctos Winter Ale now in bottles!! Available today in the taproom and later on in select retail locations around Portland!”
Migration Brewing (Portland): They are now bottling in house! “The next chapter in our very own beer adventure begins today, with a sneak peek at the first day of in-house bottling! Very soon, you’ll be able to take Migration brews home with you. Hand-made with love!”
Portland’s Culmination Brewing has a Japanese collaboration brew on tap you’re going to want to check out: Amaterasu Sour Farmhouse. “Amaterasu is a Sour Farmhouse brewed with wild yeast harvested from the Ise Grand Shinto Shrine Garden in Japan and conditioned with both green (young) and yellowish orange (ripe) Yuzu. Yuzu is a citrus fruit originating in East Asia. We were honored to have developed and brewed Amaterasu in collaboration with Ise Kadoya Brewery from Ise, Japan.”
