Oregon Beer: Hair of the Dog BrewingHappy Friday! We’re heading into the weekend before the holiday which means start thinking about thawing and beer brining your turkeys and getting your other recipes in order. And there is of course news in Oregon beer to report, and here’s the roundup for this weekend. As usual I’ll be keeping this post up to date throughout the day (Friday) so keep an eye on things for the latest news.

Friday, Nov. 16

Starting Friday and running through Sunday, Hair of the Dog Brewing in Portland is celebrating it 25th anniversary with a Festival of Wood Aged Beers! “In celebration of our 25 anniversary we will be pouring some of our most special wood aged Beers on draft, with selections changing every day.” You won’t need any tickets or anything special to attend and enjoy the beers. One of the special ones to watch for is Don: “Don is a special beer I made in memory of Don Younger, popular Portland publican. The beer, a Double Barleywine, has achieved a unique drinkability through aging and recipe design that will make a positive impression on the drinker, just like Don did,” brewer Alan Sprints told the New School. It’s a big milestone and one you’ll want to help HOTD celebrate!

McMenamins‘ holiday ale, Kris Kringle, returns this Friday! The 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop in Portland is hosting the release for the beer (which returns in cans as well) and you should see it on tap at other locations. This year’s description reads: “This year’s winter warmer is a hearty and robust ale with a big and bold malt complexity. Toasty, caramel and fig flavors make up its sturdy foundation while two hop varieties added in five different additions deliver magnificent and intense hop flavor and aroma. Happy holidays!”

Pelican Brewing on the coast is hosting two “Take Flight” dinners this weekend—and Friday night’s is in Cannon Beach. “Receive a flight of our four barrel aged beers – Captain of the Coast, Queen of Hearts, Father of All Tsunamis, and the NEW 2018 Mother of All Storms – paired with appetizers and small plates. Coren Tradd, our R&D Brewer, will be giving tasting notes and walking the group through the 4 courses.” It takes place from 4 to 7pm and costs $45; you can purchase tickets here, or check for any last-minute openings at 503-965-3674 or events@pelicanbrewing.com.

McMenamins Old St. Francis School (Bend) has a limited-edition beer tasting Friday from 5 to 8pm at the O’Kane’s bar, featuring a cherry chocolate beer named Dark Forest: “Who doesn’t love chocolate? Pairing chocolate with beer has become a popular trend in the craft beer world and we figured we’d take a whack at it. We started with a thick, roasty, full-bodied Oatmeal Porter and blended it with pure liquid cacao from the chocolate master minds over at Cholaka. To put the cherry on top (pun intended,) we threw in some Bing Cherries to sweeten the deal.”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Nectar Creek Mead for the can release of its Top Bar coffee mead: “Nectar Creek is now canning Top Bar – a delightful mead featuring locally roasted coffee beans and bourbon cured oak chips. Join us on Friday, November 16th to sample Top Bar & other mead from Nectar Creek. If you’re lucky, you just might win some great prizes as well!” The release party takes place from 5 to 8pm.

Zupan’s Markets and Hopworks Urban Brewery have teamed up on the latest in Zupan’s Farm-To-Market series of beers, and released a Hazy Style IPA. This Friday the HUB team will be at the various Zupan’s Market’s locations around Portland to sample the beer from 4 to 7pm.

Corvallis Brewing Supply is hosting its Bi-Annual Cellared Beer Release on Saturday—digging out some terrific aged and rare beers from its cellar: “We have a 10-year beer cellaring program where we stash cool beers for up to 10 years and release them for your beer drinking enjoyment! They have not seen the light of day since they left the brewery and have been stored in our cave. Most of the stash is in the 3-7 year span so what we put out will be drinking great now or worthy of a few more years in your cellar! We open 2 hours earlier (8:00am) and serve doughnuts so that you don’t have to worry about breakfast! If you have a beer you’d like to share, please bring it for the crowd!”

Oregon City Brewing is celebrating its 4th anniversary on Saturday: “Hard to believe it has been FOUR years! We have come a long, long way since opening our doors and owe it all to our faithful customers. Come, let us celebrate together! We will have a heated tent covering the patio because, well, November.
