Oregon Beer News, 10/28/2015

Oregon BeerHalfway through the week and getting close to Halloween! Who’s picked out a beer-themed costume? Here’s the news for Wednesday, October 28. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro): This month’s Roadhouse Invitational beer tasting flight is dubbed the “Roadhouse Levitational” and is featuring three stronger ales: Rum Runner Double IPA (8.64% abv, aged in a rum cask), Spiny Norman Double IPA (8.26%, aged in a whiskey barrel), and Pole Ax Strong Ale (7.35%). It runs from 6 to 9pm tonight.

StormBreaker Brewing (Portland): Tonight The BeerMongers is hosting the release of StormBreaker’s Trail Blazer-themed Triple Double IPA along with the team’s season opener starting at 7:30pm: “We are excited to have our friends from Stormbreaker in the Mongers for the Portland Trailblazers opening game of the season. Our cycle cross team scored a big hit when they teamed up with Stormbreaker to create Good to the Last Lap Session IPA. Tonight to honor our Blazers we will debut a new batch of the Triple Double IPA. GO BLAZERS!”

16 Tons (Eugene): Their Halloween candy pairings and pumpkin beer tapping event continues today, featuring Theo chocolates for the pairing: Dark Chocolate w/ Coffee & Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, Dark Cherry Almond & Sour Red Ale, Chocolate Ginger & Ninkasi Pumpkin Sleigh’r, and Sea Salt & Smoked Imperial Porter.

McMenamins The Rams Head (Portland) has a special beer tasting and meet the brewer tonight starting at 5pm, featuring Headwaters Witbier: “A Witbier to kick off the rainy season. With a mild hint of pumpkin and spices this beer should be a nice break from the standard wheat. Pumpkin in the mash and spices in the hop sack, this beer will only grow on flavor.”

Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland): Today from 5:30 to 6:30pm they have a Halloween-ish “Sweet Treats” pairing event: “Chef is creating unique treats to pair with our beer to lead us into the spooktacular upcoming weekend.” I’m guessing it’s their pumpkin ale from last week’s tapping.

The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release is a fruity pale: Paleuous Magnum. “In August as Oregon was baking in a record heat wave, this week’s Brew Crew guest brewer was sweating over her recipe for Paleuous Magnum. Vanessa Morea (pictured below) began with a load of German Magnum hops added to the boil, followed by a whirlpool of Simcoe hops, and then finished by dry-hopping with a half pound of fresh Meridian hops. Two months later and what do we have? A beer with a mellow tropical fruit aroma, yet full-bodied with a bite. Head on over to the Green Dragon this Wednesday and join us as the Brew Crew taps Vanessa’s creation.” They start at 5pm.

Breakside Brewery (Portland) has released this year’s version of La Tormenta, their dry-hopped sour ale. It’s available now on draft and in 22 ounce bottles. From the press release: “Our final seasonal bottle for the 2015 brew year is our experimental sour ale made with a unique blend of citrusy, tropical and fruity hops. Bracing-yet-balanced sour notes combine beautifully with West Coast hop flavor in this sweet and tart ale. This beer was one of our most popular offerings last year, and we’re excited to re-release it as a light and beguiling alternative to classic winter beers. Notes of blueberry, guava, grapefruit, and lemongrass are offset by a juicy acidity, medium body, and a moderate sweetness from caramel malt.”

Bend Brewing (Bend) is well-represented tonight at Portland’s Tin Bucket for their “We Love Bend Brewing” tap takeover; starting at 5pm Tin Bucket will have eight BBC beers on tap, including GABF-winning Salmonberry Sour (the only keg to have left the brewery in Bend), Lovely Cherry Baltic Porter, Wicked Medicine, and more.

Wild Ride Brewing (Redmond) is doing a meet the brewer event tonight at Cask N’ Keg taproom in West Linn, from 6 to 9pm; they’ll have plenty of Wild Ride beers, swag, and more.
