Oregon BeerHere’s the news in Oregon beer for the penultimate day of the week (Thursday the 24th). As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Tonight Killer Beer Week is taking over Hillsboro’s Orenco Taphouse and bringing the beers of the Willamette Valley for Eugene & Corvallis Killer Beer Fest kicking off at 3pm: “Many seldom found breweries from the Eugene and Corvallis area will include Falling Sky, Claim 52, Plank Town, and Agrarian Ales as well as well known and beloved favorites such as Ninkasi, Oakshire, Flat Tail, and 2 Towns Cider. There will be many more so, get a designated driver or hop on the Max light rail train (Orenco is right off the NW 231 stop). This event will be a great opportunity for folks to check out this awesome new pub as well as an absolute highlight of this year’s Killer Beer Week!”

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Washington’s Propolis Brewing tonight for a meet the brewer from 5 to 8pm: “Meet Piper Cornett of Port Townsend, Washington’s Propolis Brewing. Propolis focuses on seasonal herbal ales inspired by old world tradition and handcrafted with new world ingenuity. Utilizing local and wild-crafted herbs their Belgium farmhouse-style inspired ales are brewed to reflect the regionally rich and unique terroir of our Pacific Northwest. So everyone can enjoy these unique beers, we will be serving flights of three of the Propolis beers on draft and one from the bottle.”

Worthy Brewing (Bend) has their first “Thursty Thursday” going on today featuring a special beer that sounds yummy: “We’re tapping a killer firkin of IPA, wet hopped with fresh Meridians at 5pm. Firkin pints are $3 and we’ll have a $3 snack menu until the firkin is gone. Don’t miss it!” Sort of a fresh hop hybrid IPA it sounds like.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): They have a new Brewer’s Share series beer coming out, Duffy’s Counterpunch: “an Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale crafted by Marketing Coordinator Stephanie Duffy. This ICDA is rich and complex, with woodsy evergreen aromas complemented by notes of coffee and dark chocolate from roasted malts. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and warming, and the ample malt body (with help from Munich and a range of Caramel and Carafa dark malts) supports the assertive roast and hop character. Nugget, Crystal, and Brewer’s Gold hops provide a slightly fruity, tangerine note and a crisp, hoppy finish. ABV 7.5% IBU 82” They’re scheduling some meet-the-brewer events starting next week for the beer, as well. Keep an eye out for it!

Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters): They have their Dark Hollow Harvest Ale back on tap for the season. “This full bodied malty harvest ale appears every fall to welcome in the changing seasons. Featuring a mixture of the finest specialty malts including Belgian special B and German Munich malts and fermented with English Ale yeast, Dark Hollow pours a dark almost purplish red and is loaded with dark fruit malt flavors balanced by Cluster and Crystal hops.” It’s 8% abv and 36 IBUs.

Widmer Brothers (Portland) has their winter seasonal, Brrr, back on the shelves again for its eighth time. “Brrr Seasonal Ale is a hoppy Northwest-style red ale, which is a departure from many dark malt-driven winter warmers, with a deep red, rich body and a hearty malt presence. The addition of Simcoe and Cascade hops give it a big citrusy hop aroma, while Widmer Brothers’ Alchemy hop blend provides a balanced bitterness to complement the sweet malt profile. First released as N.W. Red Ale as part of the brewery’s experimental W Series in 2006, the beer quickly became a favorite and earned a spot in the Widmer Brothers seasonal lineup less than a year later. The beer was renamed Brrr Seasonal Ale, and has been warming up winters for Widmer Brothers fans ever since.” It’s a tasty beer and one to look for.
