Oregon Beer News, 10/09/2013

Oregon BeerHere’s the Oregon beer news for Wednesday, October 9th. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Worthy Brewing (Bend) has their new 5-bbl pilot system set up, and yesterday posted a photo with some reasons why that’s exciting: “1. Chad and Dustin brewed our first batch of beer on our new 5bbl pilot system.  2. The beer is a Fresh Hop, using the very first hops from our Hop Yard!” That’s impressive not the least for the fact that the hops are brand new, only planted this spring. Look for the beer to be on tap in a couple weeks.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland) has a new release in their Rock & Roll IPA Series hitting the Sidebar: “Today’s the release of Bry Bri Miss American Pie IPA, a collaboration between our own Bryan Keilty & Executive Chef Brian Scheehser of Trellis Restaurant in Kirkland, WA. 4 to 10pm at Sidebar. Free appetizers while they last! Also pouring Golden Pear (our Golden Ale aged for two months in a keg with locally picked pears), Pumpkin ESB, Port Barrel Aged Big Bang Red, Monster Mash Imperial Porter & Oktoberfest. See you there!”

The Platypus Pub (Bend) is re-opened again after being closed several weeks for renovations, and this week they’ve got several things going on, including their 2nd anniversary celebration on Friday and Saturday:

  • Tonight they are hosting a meet the brewer and tasting with Klamath Basin Brewing out of Klamath Falls from 6 to 8pm: “Head Brewer Cory will be sampling several of his beers and answer questions about their Brewery. We will be serving their Vanilla Porter and Fresh Hop Beers.”
  • Their 2nd anniversary celebration will take place all day Friday and Saturday, featuring special pricing on beers and food ($1 off draft beers and appetizers), a new menu by their new head chef Robert Stoner, and they’ll have Fresh Hop, Pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers on tap for the occasion.
