Oregon Beer News, 10/04/2017

Oregon Beer, SaravezaHere is the news for this Hump Day, Wednesday, October 4. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Saraveza (Portland) is hosting Coalition Brewing for their Fresh Hemp IPA release today, starting at 5pm: “We’re stoked to once again host the release of one of Coalition Brewing’s newest heady concoctions, the never before done Fresh Hemp IPA. They’re able to brew this beauty because of the similarities in both hop and hemp harvest times and because of the hard work of the folks at Crosby Hop Farm and Boring Hemp Company. Coaltion has been working with leaders in this immensely fast growing industry to showcase a harmony between the beer profile of the Pacific Northwest and the cannabis plant. We’ll also have their Lemon and Basil CBD sour “Herbs of a Feather” and a very unique Old Tom Gin style barrel aged version of their rose petal sour “Roselandia” on draft.”

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) announced the release of their Blood Orange Wheat Ale in cans—a nice addition to the canned lineup! From the release: “Meeting a demand for quality craft brew in cans, Full Sail Brewing Co. is pleased to announce that refreshing Blood Orange Wheat Ale is now available in 12 oz. aluminum cans. If you already love Full Sail Blood Orange Wheat, you’re not alone – this brew brought home gold medals from the 2016 World Beer Awards and the 2017 World Beer Championships. Brewed with 2-Row Northwest Pale, malted and unmalted wheat, and a hint of citrus, this beer has a medium malt body with subtle orange and a crisp wheat finish.”

Portland’s Bazi Bierbrasserie and Occidental Brewing are teaming up for a Wurst & Bier Pairing night at Bazi today starting at 5pm: “Join Occidental Brewing Company and Paulaner USA for a Wurst & Bier pairing event. The beer lineup includes Occidental Festbier, Occidental Dunkel, Occidental Kolsch, Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen, Paulaner Salvator Doppelbock, and Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest Marzen. The Altengartz Bratwurst available only at Sheridan Fruit Co. is made by a pair of guys with a rich German heritage. The bratwurst will be simmered in each of the 6 beers for the pairing. Cost: $15 for six 5 oz pours of beer with sausage pairing. PLUS Stein Hoist competition at 7:30 PM with prices to the top 3 finishers. $1 of every tasting tray sold will be donated to Friends of the Columbia Gorge.”

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting a tasting and meet the brewer event with Wolves & People Brewery today from 5 to 8pm: “Reigning from Newburg, Ore., this truly farmhouse brewery creates, ages, blends, and bottles unique, small-batch beers exhibiting the beautiful wildness of Oregon terroir. Christian DeBenedetti (Founder/Head Brewer) will be in-house talking beer and sharing stories of owning a farmhouse brewery.” They will be tasting through 7 bottles and will have three beers on draft.

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) has pumpkin beer releases today! “We’re serving up 2 pumpkin beers in our pubs. We also have very limited bottles available so make sure you’re here early to grab them! Details on each beer: Abominable Pumpkin Ale: Trick or treat? We just turned your favorite winter beer into a jack-o-lantern! All the bones of Abominable, including floral, spicy and citrus hop flavors, mingling with a host of pumpkin spices. This beer contains lactose for extra sweetness and body. Great Gourds Of Fire: Local pumpkins from Bella Organic Farm were pit roasted and added to this rich brew along with cinnamon, dried ancho chili pepper, cocoa nibs, molasses, cardamom, vanilla and a whole lot of good vibes.” The release party is from 5 to 7pm and I hope (hope!) we see some bottles make it Bend…

Rogue’s Eastside Pub in Portland has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release today, featuring Fresh Hop Sophie Pale Ale: “One of the many reasons we love Portland is the access to fresh ingredients for beer. Fresh hops are special in that they’re only available for a short time and don’t travel or store well. This provides an opportunity for fresh hop beers that is unlike any other location. We celebrate this special time each year with our version of this style called Sophie. We hand picked the Revolution hops at Rogue farms in Independence, OR the day before brewing the beer on Labor Day. Our labor brings your reward with this very special beer. Enjoy on the Rogue Eastside patio before the rains come for good!” The beer is tapped at 5pm.

Portland’s Bridgetown Beerhouse is hosting Rutherford B. Hazy IPA day all day today, featuring (yep) hazy NE-style IPAs: “Help us Celebrate the birthday of our 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes with his favorite beverage Hazy IPA. This is not a ticketed event. Beers will be available in full and half pours (no flights) Credit Cards will be accepted, but cash is king.”

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): Their latest fresh hop ale is releasing today in cans, Crystal Zwickle. About the beer: “Often celebrated for its aromatic qualities, we’re giving this classic hop the full-flavor treatment it deserves. Starring freshly harvested Oregon-grown Crystal hops – morning-picked and in the kettle that same afternoon, in order to fully exploit their herbal and earthy awesomeness – we’ve crafted a spicy, hop-forward Pale Ale that’s as clear a sample of the Crystal hop’s unique character as you’ll enjoy anywhere.”
