Oregon BeerHere’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday the second of October. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

I had reported a little while back that former Full Sail Brewmaster (and now independent brewer) John Harris collaborated with Bend’s Boneyard Beer to brew up a special “India Wheat Ale” they’ve dubbed “Aleias” and it’s fairly limited: “Simcoe and Amarillo were used exclusively throughout the process. Aleias IWA has a crisp malt character with loads of citrus and tropical hop flavor coming from  using 3.5 pounds of hops per barrel.  Aleias was dry hopped 3 times. Only 40 barrels of this 7.1% beer were produced.” This week, on Thursday the 4th, they are officially releasing the beer in a “roving release party” that will start at Belmont Station at 5pm, hit the Horse Brass Pub at 6:30ish, and finish up at APEX Bar at 8:00ish. That is going to be a good release party!

Belmont Station (Portland) in the meantime has a meet the brewer and tasting today, featuring Hood River’s Logsdon Farmhouse Ales from 5 to 8pm: “Logsdon Brewing, from Parkdale, Oregon, has made quite the impression on the Oregon beer scene. Meet Chuck Porter, their brewer, and try their Seizoen Bretta, Seizoen, Fresh Hop Seizoen, Kili Wit, Cerasus, and Far West Vlaming. We will tap their new Fresh Hop Seizoen in the Biercafe. This is a rare opportunity to have this beer on draft and a lineup of bottles that you will not want to miss.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tonight at the Portland Pub is the Portland Jubelale release and artist signing, from 5 to 11pm, featuring Jubelale on tap and available in bottles, a special menu, and of course this year’s label artist Kaycee Anseth on hand to sign free poster prints of the label. Get down to Deschutes for your first taste of Jubel and get a free poster to boot!

Deschutes’ Bend Pub is also holding this month’s “Deschutes Brewery University” on Fresh Hops Beerstonight from 6 to 8pm: “We will focus on a brief history of fresh hop beers and the techniques we’ve used with them, when they are added to the kettle and how they are harvested from the vines. Sample several varieties of fresh hop beers including Hop Trip and Chasin’ Freshies along with some tasty appetizers.” Cost is $25 and there are still some tickets available.

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday tonight at 6 is featuring “Live” Noyaux: “This NW style sour ale features blonds and triples aged on oak for 18 to 24 months, then additionally aged for 12 months on raspberries and apricot noyaux. Sweet raspberry fruit, rose petals, almond and vanillin are noticed up front. Tart raspberries, oak and a soft almond note on the tongue lead to a finish of rich, tart raspberries with lingering hints of almond and maraschino cherries. 8.94% ABV / $7 Glass / $2.5 Taster.”

Double Mountain Brewery (Hood River): Today starting at 4pm Double Mountain will be at the Produce Row Cafe in Portland for their fresh hop release party featuring their two fresh hop beers, Killer Green and Killer Red. There will be four of their beers all on tap, and “killer food specials” available as well.

And speaking of fresh hops, the Portland Fresh Hops Fest is taking place this weekend at the Oaks Amusement Park, with a special Friday night preview from 5:30 to 8:30pm and then taking place all day Saturday from noon to 8. You can buy tickets to either day’s event directly on the page, and they also have a nice list of available beers for the weekend (PDF). If you missed Hood River or Sisters this past Saturday, be sure to check this one out!
