Oregon Beer, Worthy BrewingHappy Friday! Are you ready for the weekend? Here’s the news and events in beer from around the state for this weekend of October 19-21; as usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day (Friday) so make sure to check back in occasionally for the latest news. And of course if you have any news to share, please let me know and I can get it updated.

Friday, Oct. 19

Worthy Brewing (Bend) is hosting another of its Craft Beer, Cheese & Charcuterie Pairing events Friday at 5pm: “Hey Bend! The holidays are approaching and you have no idea what to serve your guests. Or, you are an avid beer enthusiast and would love to experience different varieties and what to pair them with. Either way, you’re invited to Worthy Brewing’s craft beer & artisan cheese pairing October 19, 5-6:30pm. Expect to have your senses dazzled by a Certified Cicerone beer presentation that compliments various types of local artisan cheeses and select meats. You’ll get to taste different beer, cheese and charcuterie combinations. You will leave with tools to impress your holiday guests as well as a Worthy 6-Pack. Register through Eventbrite today. Brewpublic continues to celebrate its tenth anniversary with Killer Beer Weekend all weekend long, and Friday is the 10th Brewniversary party hosted by The BeerMongers starting at 4pm! “Celebrate our 10th Brewniversary with us at The BeerMongers. On tap will be some killer beers from Alesong Brewing and Blending, Gigantic Brewing Company & Other Half Brewing Company, Great Notion Brewing, Firestone Walker Brewing Co., Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, and more! We will also have Hakuna Murata Food Truck on site serving up its Japanese and Filipino inspired food!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) hosts Pumpkinpalooza! — the next stop on the Elysian Brewing Great Pumpkin Roadshow. “Pumpkinpalooza is back & our taps will be pouring your favorite pumpkin beers all day! As always we will be featuring Elysian’s Great Pumpkin Roadshow which of course, includes 8 of their most delicious pumpkin beers and a pumpkin firkin! Yes, we will be pouring beer from a very large pumpkin which will be tapped at 7pm.” If you’re a pumpkin beer fan then you’ll want to stop in. Crux Fermentation Project (Bend) has a new [BANISHED] series imperial stout bottle release on Friday: Lost Love. “We put our newest imperial stout in some Willet Rye Whiskey barrels for about 8 months to make our latest One-Off [BANISHED] series release. We’re calling it Lost Love, and we’re tapping it this Friday. Come on down to try it for the first time, and make sure to grab a bottle or two for later.”

Mia and Pia’s Pizzeria and Brewhouse (Klamath Falls) is celebrating Oktoberfest on Friday: “Live Music starts at 6pm with a Dixieland jazz/umpah brass band, and on the music breaks, Malin Beseda Dancers performing! BEER, brats, sauerkraut and german potato salad while supplies last! Come on down and get your OKTOBERFEST on!”

Cascade Brewing (Portland) has a couple of new beers out on Friday; first, Primordial Noir 2017 is availabe in bottles and on draft: “Primordial Noir is a blend of imperial red ales aged in bourbon and wine barrels for up to two years with Northwest-grown Bing cherries and spices. A concentrated precursor to our Sang Noir project, Primordial Noir features a more robust bourbon and cherry aroma with notes of roast malt, molasses and baking spices. Available via distribution and at the Cascade Brewing Blending House and the Lodge at Cascade Brewing.”

And then, at the Lodge at Cascade Brewing (formerly the Raccoon Lodge), there’s a very holiday/winter release out: “We are super excited to be releasing Mulled Apple sour beer this Friday! Red and blonde sour beers aged in oak with apples, honey, vanilla and spices and served HOT! This very special limited edition beer helps ring in the changing season beautifully.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): The Bend Tasting Room’s Firkin Friday is taking place all day starting at noon: “TGIFirkin Friday! Stop by the Tasting Room to learn about cask beer, sample our featured concoction, and maybe–just maybe–be the one to tap it! Tried it? Love it? For one special day each week, you can drink a pint of cask beer in the Tasting Room–or take it home in a growler or crowler!”

Saturday, Oct. 20

Ecliptic Brewing (Portland) celebrates its fifth orbit around the sun with an anniversary party all day Saturday: “Join us in celebrating our Fifth Orbit around the sun. We’ll have special beers, food, music, and fun. It’s sure to be a spacetastic time for all!
BEER – We will be releasing a special beer brewed for our Anniversary.
Fifth Orbit: Dry-Hopped Strawberry Sour Ale will be available on tap and in 500ml to-go bottles.
AMUSE-BOUCHES – Come out and try some tasty bites from our amazing team in the kitchen. Our full menu will also be available in the pub.
BREWERY TOURS – Been wanting to check out our new brewhouse and canning line? John Harris, Owner + Brewmaster, will be giving tours! Close toed shoes are required. Tours leave at 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM, and 3PM.”

And then Portland’s Saraveza is celebrating its tenth anniversary on Saturday as well! “We’re turning 10 and we can’t believe it! We’re thrilled to have been able to spend the last decade serving and supporting our community. It’s been an unbelievable adventure and we’re looking forward to 10 more! We’ll have a full draft list of special beers including our collaborations with Culmination Brewing, Ex Novo Brewing, Wayfinder Beer, Upright Brewing and Ecliptic Brewing. We’ll have very special tappings from pFriem Family Brewers, Breakside Brewing, Upright Brewing and more!

Brewpublic’s Killer Beer Weekend continues with KillerBeerFest 10.0 taking place at Bailey’s Taproom starting at noon: “The team at BREWPUBLIC celebrates 10 years of beer news at downtown Portland’s top beer bar, Bailey’s Taproom. On tap will be 26 killer beers carefully selected by BREWPUBLIC. As with other years, KillerBeerFest 10.0 will only have the best of the best on tap as the best beers are sought out from the best breweries both near and afar.”

McMenamins Edgefield Brewery (Troutdale) is hosting A Night of Misrule, featuring the beers behind this year’s Lord of Misrule blending: “Join us in the Edgefield Brewery for an evening of sampling the barrel-aged beers that may be used for the final Lord of Misrule blend. We’ve brewed, barrel-aged and blended this beer in various forms since 2014. It’s been the Edgefield Brewery’s contribution to the season, charged with leading holiday revelries, leading us to package the brew for the first time in 2017. Embracing a new recipe every year, Lord of Misrule is a beer that celebrates all that the Edgefield Brewery has to offer, utilizing barrels from our own winery and distilleries. We’ll have wee bites for you to enjoy while you learn about our barrel program, mix your own blends and submit your vote for the very best. This is your chance to get behind the scenes and influence the transformation of a beer available in bottles this winter.” It runs from 4 to 7pm and costs $38.

Bend’s Craft Kitchen & Brewery is holding the grand opening of its brewery taproom on Saturday starting at 3pm. There will be live music, beer of course, and raffle of items from local businesses with proceeds benefiting Family Resource Center.

Avid Cider (Bend) is hosting its own grand opening, of its new Portland Pearl District taproom: “Join us in celebrating our new Portland Taproom+kitchen! We are extremely proud to bring you AVID fans the largest (3600 sq ft) cider taproom in the NW. Our Grand Opening will consist of: Special event single batch ciders including a Cascade Hopped Blackberry Cider, our Dragonfruit Cider infused with Habanero Peppers, and our Vanilla Bean Pear Fall Seasonal.” Party is all day, and features a photo booth, raffle of Trail Blazer and Winterhawk tickets, and more.

Sparky’s Brewing (Salem) is celebrating Sparktoberfest on Saturday at 5pm: “Sparktoberfest 2018 will be a frightfully good time with fall time food & drink specials, raffles, & more! Get a pumpkin when you buy a pint of Sparky’s beer 5 pm to 10 pm.” The brewery will also be giving away a pumpkin to the first 50 people who order a Sparky’s beer.

Viking Braggot Company (Eugene) is pouring an IPA 5-Way Flight on Saturday: “The latest small batch/experimental releases from the brewers comes in the form of IPA done 5 different ways! Think IPAs just have to be hop bombs? Think again! We will have: Single Hop, English-style on cask, Imperial, Belgian and Brute styles! These won’t last long so come try them all as a flight or pints!”

The Elk Horn Brewery (Eugene) celebrates Octo-beer-fest all day Saturday, with “Polka band, fun, games, pumpkin tapping” and German-themed food.

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a tasting with Left Hand Brewing on Saturday from 2 to 4pm.

Sunday, Oct. 21

The 2018 Ben Fest is taking place Sunday at Lombard House in Portland; this is the festival that celebrates brewers named “Ben” and all of the beers are from Bens. “We are honored to be hosting Ben Fest 2018. It’s an event that I never dreamed we would host, celebrating all of the amazing “Bens” who make some of the best damn beer in the world. It is also a day to celebrate the life of our friend Ben Flerchinger. We will be featuring beers from each Ben and our friend Nando will be spinning tunes to make you shake your booty. Our good friend Chef Doug Adams has graciously donated 200 pounds of pork he will be smoking and making sandwiches out of. Proceeds from the food will be going to charity along with a portion of all of the beer sold. Please come join us and celebrate with all the Bens!”
