Oregon Beer, Cranking for ColbyHere’s the Oregon beer news for a new week, at the October halfway mark for this Monday the 15th. As usual I will periodically update this post throughout the day, so check back in for the latest news. If you have any news to share, feel free to contact me to let me know.

Across Central Oregon today, breweries and bars are coming together for Deschutes Brewery employee Colby Nightingale, recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and Cranking for Colby will raise funds with beer: “Watering holes around Central Oregon are taking a couple hours on Monday, October 15th to show support for our friend Colby Nightingale and his battle against pancreatic cancer. Not only are we going to donate $1 from every pint sold between 4pm-9pm, but it’s also Colby’s BIRTHDAY! Even more reason to come together over a pint! Keep Colby in your thoughts and if you’d also like to donate to the Go Fund Me Page set up by his family, click here: https://www.gofundme.com/colby-nightingale039s-cancer-fund” Some additional locations have been added since I posted the press release last week, so make sure to check the event link for the latest.

Did you get tickets for Salem Ale WorksFall Beer Pairing Dinner tonight? It’s the brewery’s first in-house dinner and it paired up with Osprey Farm to bring “Five courses highlighting the harvest of the Mid-Willamette Valley paired with Salem Ale Works finest craft beer.” It looks like a terrific menu and while sales have closed, I don’t know if there might be any last minute openings or cancellations so keep and eye on the ticket page (or call the brewery to find out).

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Swift Cider for the release of Batch 1 of Swift’s Heirloom Cider Series tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Guests can try draft pours of Batch 1: The Sauvie Island Keeve. Founder and head cider maker Aidan Currie expects to release a few small batches monthly featuring distinctive blends of rare estate-grown cider apples from Sauvie Island. A very limited quantity of these batches will sell to bars in Oregon and Washington on draft. All the rest will be reserved for members the Swift Cider Club.”

According to Jay Brooks, Portland’s Lucky Labrador Brewing opened on this day in 1994, marking this as the brewpub’s 24th birthday. Seems to be that’s a good reason to stop by one of the Lab’s locations and raise a toast to nearly a quarter century of dog-themed beers. Cheers!

Brewpublic‘s annual Killer Beer Weekend begins this week, celebrating 10 years of the beer blog and news site! On Thursday the 18th, Roscoe’s hosts the Killer Beer Weekend kick off party, then on Friday The BeerMongers hosts Brewpublic’s 10th Brewniversary with special tappings. The restaurant is located inside the Best Western Premier Peppertree Inn and “features zpizza’s signature artisan brick-oven baked pizzas made with premium ingredients and this location is unique in that it has two tap walls: one in the restaurant with 16 taps serving local brew and wine and another tap wall in the hotel lobby with three taps.” The fine print on winning the year of pizza is, “Free small pizza each month for a year beginning in November. Purchase required (no minimum) to receive certificate.”

Freehand Brewing, Eugene’s newest brewery, launches this week with a release party at The Bier Stein on Thursday the 18th. From the press release: “Freehand is the first residential commercial brewery in the city, working on a small scale in a former artists’ studio to produce saison-centric and barrel aged beers with Northwest and organic ingredients. On Thursday, October 18, Freehand will have its debut event at The Bier Stein Bottleshop & Pub. They will introduce the first three bottle conditioned beers, Saison/Melee; Saison/Forte; and Staves/Rippie, with free samples and the option to purchase a small cheese plate to pair with a flight.”
