Oregon Beer, Bend Brewing CompanyHappy Friday—we’re finally to the weekend! Here are the news and events in beer taking place around the state for this second weekend in October. I’ll be updating this post throughout the day on Friday, so check back often if you need help cementing your weekend beer plans. And of course, feel free to contact me to let me know of anything else going on, or any beer news.

Friday, Oct. 12

Bend Brewing Company is celebrating coffee (beer) and doughnuts Friday evening starting at 4:30pm: “Join us on Friday, Oct 12th from 4:30-8:00 as we throw a party celebrating our THUMP Coffee Beer collaboration complete with FREE DONUTS!!! Both StumpThumpin’ Coffee Brown Ale & Coffee N’ Cream Coffee Blonde Ale will be on tap – if you buy a beer you will get a ticket to redeem it for FREE DONUTS at the ScoutPost Donut Food Cart that will be setup outside next to our fire pit. Of course we will have live music & as always, kid friendly!”

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting the release party for Black Widow Porter from 6 to 8pm: “We are releasing this year’s Black Widow Porter into the autumn night, and to celebrate we will be tapping kegs of Black Widow and 2017 Whiskey Widow Porter from McMenamins Concordia Brewery. Plus, Black Widow in cans will be available for purchase.” Black Widow is available from the 12th through Halloween.

Conversion Brewing (Lebanon) has a can release for its ABG IPA today: “For everyone that didn’t make it in before it sold out in 7 hours last time, we will be releasing ABG IPA in cans again this Friday at the Brewery.” The full name is Gambler 500 AGB IPA, and a video posted on Facebook with the brewers mentions it as a session IPA or thereabouts.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): The Bend Tasting Room is hosting Firkin Fridays every week, starting at noon: “TGIFirkin Friday! Stop by the Tasting Room to learn about cask beer, sample our featured concoction, and maybe–just maybe–be the one to tap it! Tried it? Love it? For one special day each week, you can drink a pint of cask beer in the Tasting Room–or take it home in a growler or crowler!” I don’t yet what beer will be tapped, but will update once posted.

The Ashland Growler Guys is hosting the Elysian Brewing Great Pumpkin Roadshow this Friday from 6 to 8pm. Elysian will be bringing in eight of its pumpkin beers (including, yes, a hazy pumpkin milkshake IPA) and, if it’s like the other Roadshow stops, will fill a large pumpkin with beer to tap like a cask.

Bend’s The Brown Owl will be pouring Deschutes Brewery’s The Dissident Brett on tap! That’s the 100% Brett-fermented version. “We’re throwing a Deschutes Brewery party [Friday], headlined by Dissident Brett on draft! We will also be pouring a Pub Specialty Fresh Hop IPA and a collab with Bell’s Brewery!”

Redmond’s Rimrock Taphouse is celebrating its second anniversary Friday with a tap takeover featuring Sunriver Brewing starting at 4pm. “We will be starting our 2 year anniversary with a Sunriver Brewing Tap Takeover. Their Tap Takeover will be from 4-6pm. We will be doing pints, flights, free samples and raffles for Swag. BINGO kicks off at 6 till 8pm and all proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society of Central Oregon. Lynne from HSCO we be here to answer questions and give out prizes. $2 a bingo card or bring in a CAN of cat or dog food for a bingo card.”

Saturday, Oct. 13

The Umpqua Brew Fest returns to Roseburg on Saturday, raising funds for Umpqua Watersheds in its ninth year. Bringing together breweries from Southern Oregon and beyond, the festival starts at 1pm. $10 admission gets you the glass and four tasting tickets, with more available for $1 apiece; one tickets gets a half pour and two tickets gets a full pour.

Bend’s Pine Tavern restaurant is throwing its fourth annual Beerfest Invitational, the PT83, on Saturday. Central Oregon breweries will be on hand pouring beer and vying to be the people’s choice favorite, which will reserve them a year-round placement on the “PT” tap. “Each ticketholder receives up to 8 beer tastings, one ballot, a PT83 pint glass, and you can vote for your favorite beer! The winning beer of PT83 Beerfest Invitational will be put on tap at the Pine Tavern for one year. Come taste, vote and enjoy! All proceeds benefit KIDS Center, Central Oregon’s only child abuse prevention and intervention center.” You can pre-purchase tickets online here.

2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis): The cidery’s eighth annual Harvest Party takes place takes place all day, starting at noon: “With 30+ craft ciders, including party exclusives, a pumpkin cider bar, delicious food vendors, rockin’ bands all day long, and other fun activities, #2TownsHarvestParty is our annual celebration of the bountiful harvest, and all our amazing supporters! $10 admission (includes drink tickets and re-usable stainless steel mug).
All profits benefit Trillium Family Services”

Bailey’s Taproom‘s The Upper Lip (Portland) is welcoming Wildflower Brewing to Portland at 5pm: “Join us Saturday, October 13th at 5pm to welcome Wildflower Brewing and Blending to The States! We will be featuring three draught and two bottle offerings which showcase the broad spectrum of flavors derived from Australian wild yeast and bacteria.”

Second Profession Brewing (Portland) is throwing Blocktoberfest — its first-year block party on Saturday from 2 to 6pm. Also the brewery just released a new beer which will probably be pouring: “Our new A Tribe Called Hefe hits taps just in time for our first annual Blocktoberfest! Light and refreshing Citra hops, this beer is perfect for the fall season.”

Redmond’s Beer Stop Growler Fill Station is celebrating three years this weekend, with an anniversary party and the release of BS Haze IPA on Saturday at noon: “Saturday October 13th all day come celebrate our 3 year anniversary party! We will have our first ever collaboration beer with Bridge 99 Brewery for this special day. Come drink up our BS HAZE IPA! We are really excited about this beer 🙂 We will have Tim Wilson Timdoggs in the house to feed your belly. Don’t miss out on this big day for us.” From 3 to 3:59pm Beer Stop will serve $3 pints of BS Haze.

Look Long Brewing (Portland) will be pouring three fresh hop beers at the Arbor Lodge Block Party and Fresh Hop Beer Release on Saturday: “We teamed up with Blackbird Pizza, Funhouse Brews, and Long Do Thai Food for an Arbor Lodge Block Party to celebrate fresh hop season and our first year of being the new biz on the block! Stop by for live music, games, and three fresh hop beers including our own Fresh as Fest Lager and Group Nugs Pale Ale, made with hops from our own gardens and some donated by the community!”

Fort George Brewery (Astoria) celebrates TinyToberfest on Saturday! “It’s two weeks late, nowhere near Germany, and so, so tiny. But if you’re exhausted from hoisting those massive steins (giant beer mugs are the WURST!), come get small and cozy at TinyToberfest with Fort George.” It takes place from 2 to 6pm.

Great Notion Brewing (Portland) has a Saturday Can Release of two beers at its Northwest location: “Homecoming – Joining forces with Other Half Brewing Company, we’re celebrating Sam’s return to Portland with an awesome homecoming party! Get ready for special evening full of mystery, romance, and hops. We rolled out the carpet for this DIPA! $20/4-pack
Baby Blue – The 6% love child of Blueberry Muffin and Juice Jr, BB is a Mosaic-forward hazy IPA fermented on blueberry and vanilla. $20/4-pack”

The Gallon House (Silverton) is fighting a Fresh Hop War Saturday at 7pm: “We have changed this event to include plenty of different styles, not just IPA’s. Styles will face up head to head. Limited tickets available $10 a spot gets you samples for all the rounds.” No other details but sounds pretty straightforward, you’ll probably get a taster tray and get to vote on the favorites.

Sunday, Oct. 14

The Willamette Week’s Beer & Cider Pro/Am takes place Sunday, taking place at Leftbank Annex starting at noon: “Willamette Week proudly presents Portland’s original home brewer and professional brewer collaboration event, benefiting Oregon Wild. 30 pairs of home brewers and pro brewer/cider makers debut a new beer or cider only available at this event! Entry allows samples of all beer and cider in the competition, no tokens, no tickets, no huge lines. Just amazing beer and cider brewed by local teams. Vote for your favorite in the People’s Choice competition, and see which beer and cider our esteemed judges decide are best. Don’t miss it. You can’t taste these brews anywhere else!”

Common Block Brewing (Medford) is hosting its Bales & Ales party from noon to 5pm: “Join us for pumpkin carving, corn hole, BBQ, new beer release, fall treats and live music with DK Jazz Project and The Brothers Reed! All ages welcome for a day of fall-time fun at Common Block in downtown Medford. Bring your jack-o-lantern carving skills and appetite – we’ll take care of the rest!”

Bend’s Immersion Brewing is hosting “Pretzelfest” on Sunday: “It’s the perfect time of the year for beer and pretzels! Join us on Sunday, October 14th from 2 – 7PM for our Fall Pretzelfest Party! We will have live music from HUTCH & GENTRY, beer specials, retail blowout, giveaways and of course, PRETZELS! Choose from different house-made pretzel flavors with different hand crafted dipping sauces. Weather permitting, we’ll even have the patio open! Don’t miss out on the fun and the pretzels!”
