Oregon Beer, Sky High BrewingHere is the news in Oregon beer for this Wednesday, October 10. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day today with the latest news as I find it, so check back often for updates. And if you have any beer news or information to share, please let me know!

Corvallis’ Sky High Brewing is hosting a Dine Out fundraiser to benefit Salmon Watch starting at 4pm tonight. “What do spawning salmon and great beer have in common? They both need clean water! Come enjoy a fresh meal and support Salmon Watch at the same time! Bring the kids for a fun trivia grame. Linn Benton Salmon Watch receives 10% of all sales when you mention us.” Make sure you mention the organization to your server to donate that 10%.

The Bier Stein is hosting the Eugene launch of Asher David Brewing, which was formerly know as Awesome Ales, tonight at 6pm: “Asher David is entering the Eugene craft beer scene full time! We are celebrating their Eugene launch with a tap takeover & a live music performance from Caitlin & McLaughlin. The music starts at 6pm and the brewers will be here all night to talk about the beer, sample their product, and hand out brewery swag.”

Rogue Ales (Newport) is set to release Counter Currant, a tart fruit ale with black currants. From the release: “Pouring deep purple in color, Counter Currant is a light-bodied fruit ale with rich flavors of black currant and a dry, tart finish. It’s available nationwide from November 2018 through February 2019. Still fairly uncommon in the United States, black currants (also known as cassis) have a cabernet sauvignon-like intensity that is balanced with a strong backbone of acidity and sweetness. This complexity makes Counter Currant food-friendly, just in time for the holiday season.” I got to sample this recently at the Columbia Distributing beverage show and found it to be tart and dry with a bit of astringency from the fruit.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): The Bend Tasting Room has a new beer release today: Gin Barrel Aged Hop Henge. “Hump day got you down? Let us cheer you up! Come in for New BEER Wednesday. Gin Barrel Aged Hop Henge: ABV: 10%, IBU: 65. Hops: Chinook, Millenium, Centennial, Cascade, Crystal. Malts: Pilsner, Wheat, Carapils, Honey Malt. We had some gin barrels and saw an unique opportunity to barrel age a hop forward beer. Draft only. Limited time.” It’s also tapped at the Bend Pub as well.

Fort George Brewery (Astoria) is hosting its TinyToberfest this Saturday, the 13th, and posted that there are only seven tickets left. If you want to attend this scaled-down, cozy Oktoberfest-styled party, get your tickets now.

Pelican Brewing (Pacific City) announced the release of the latest in its 2018 Lone Pelican Series beer today—Cherried at Sea, a Belgian-style Dark Ale with cherries. From the release: “Pelican used 40 pounds of cherries per barrel of beer to create the bittersweet brew bursting with dark chocolate and ripe fruit character, a rich, sweet aroma and velvety textures. The seasonal brew is available this month for a limited time in 22 oz. bottles and on tap. Inspired by the bounty of the fall harvest, the final entry of Pelican’s 2018 Lone Pelican series features ripe, tart cherries in a ruby-brown colored Belgian-style Dubbel. A deeply complex malt character of toffee, caramel, cocoa and dark chocolate provides the foundation while bright tart cherries add the highlights. Belgian-style Abbey yeast creates gentle fruity aromatics that underscore the malt and cherry contributions. A dry, warming finish caps off a smoothly full-bodied beer. The layers of complementary flavors create a deeply satisfying ending to this year’s fruit beer series.” This definitely sounds like one to drink!

Ecliptic Brewing (Portland) is hosting Beers for Farmers: A Benefit for Friends of Family Farmers all day today: “Eat, drink, AND support a great cause. On Wednesday, October 10th, 10% of our sales in the pub will be donated to Friends of Family Farmers. Friends of Family Farmers is a nonprofit organization that supports and advocates for socially responsible farmers and ranchers throughout Oregon. Their vision is a strong and united voice for Oregon’s independent family farmers, food advocates, and concerned citizens who are working to foster an approach to agriculture that respects the land, treats animals humanely, sustains local communities, and provides a viable livelihood for family farmers.”

Prineville’s Ochoco Brewing has Chasing Charity Bingo tonight, with additional $1 per pint being donated: “Please join us in supporting Camp Eagle Cap, along with the Crook County Booster Club October 10th from 6:00pm- 8:00pm. Bingo cards are $1 each, with the exception of the final Black Out Game at $2 each. The winner of each round gets to keep 50% of the pot collected for that particular round. In addition $1 of every Beer and $1 of every Burger sold goes to the Booster Club! Come out and enjoy a fun evening while supporting two great causes!”

ColdFire Brewing (Eugene) has a new Brut IPA on tap now: “We teamed up with Falling Sky Brewing to create Brut IPA, a new IPA brewed with fresh Amarillo and Chinook hops that were plucked right out of Crosby Hop Farm’s field and added to our beer within mere hours. Stop by the taproom to try some today.” The picture is an awfully deep red colored beer…
