Oregon BeerHere is the Oregon beer news for Thursday, the 5th of September. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Belmont Station (Portland) has a special small-batch Widmer tasting going on today from 5 to 8pm: “Widmer was asked to brew the official beer for Feast Portland, a celebration of Oregon Bounty. Focusing on one of Oregon’s most valued fruits, the brewers have created Krystal Pear. Come taste this new direction in beer and also enjoy two versions of a Widmer favorite, Old Embalmer barley wine — one version is the original recipe and the other has been aged on Pinot Noir barrels. All of the beers being sampled by Widmer were brewed at their small-batch system at the Rose Garden.”

The Green Dragon (Portland) is tapping a firkin of fresh hop ale today! “First Wet Hop of the season has arrived. Join us for a special firkin tapping this Thursday at 5:00. Rogue First Growth Wet Hop Ale!” Not only will this be super fresh, I have to think a fresh hop beer on cask would be really good—don’t pass this up if you get the chance to try it.

McMenamins Old Church & Pub (Wilsonville) has a special tasting and meet the brewer for their Old Church Oktoberfest beer, starting at 5pm tonight: “Time to say goodbye to summer and welcome the coming autumn with our annual Oktoberfest Lager. This is a clean, medium bodied lager that is dominated by malty sweetness and a bready biscuit like aroma.  The use of German Munich, Vienna and Pilsner grain provide a complex mouthfeel as well as a layered aroma.  This beer has been lagering since the beginning of March.”

McMenamins Fulton Pub (Portland) has a limited-edition tasting tonight starting at 5pm featuring their BEST Brown: “This American style brown ale is deep coppery brown in color. Medium-bodied and balanced well between malt and hop flavors, this “in between styles” beer features the best of all flavor possibilities. If you can’t make up your mind which beer to choose, this gem of an ale might just be your BEST choice.” Yes, the “BEST” is all-caps, so it must be the best!

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend) since coming under new ownership has been prepping a number of changes for the Bend brewery, and tonight they are unveiling their new logo with a “New Logo Release Celebration” that kicks off at 6pm: “Great beer. Live music by Franchot Tone & Reed Thomas Lawrence Music, and of course Silver Moon’s NEW LOGO! It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, and we’re excited to bring it. Invite your friends and see our official new logo for Silver Moon Brewing in it’s first public release. Cheers.”
