Oregon Beer News, 08/28/2015

Oregon BeerTGIF! The month of August is winding down and it’ll be September before you know it. Here’s the news in Oregon beer for the final weekend of this month; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene) announced earlier this week that they have two new beers dropping this September in their Special Release and Rare & Delicious series: Noir, a Coffee Milk Stout, and Imperial Pumpkin Sleigh’r, a Dark Doüble Alt Ale with pumpkin and brown sugar. From the press release: “Brewed with rich, roasted malts and blended with smooth cold brewed coffee from Portland’s Stumptown Coffee Roasters, this beer [Noir] is a satisfying take on a Milk Stout. For the pumpkin beer lovers, Ninkasi introduces Imperial Pumpkin Sleigh’r to its Rare & Delicious Series. Serving up a fall-time rendition of the brewery’s winter seasonal, this Imperial Dark Doüble Alt Ale is brewed with 300 pounds of organic pumpkin and a generous helping of dark brown sugar.” Okay, those sound pretty good!

Roscoe’s (Portland) has one of their Beer Summits taking place this weekend, starting today: Sour Beer Summit! “Join us for our Annual celebration of tart and sour beers! There will be beers from Oakshire, Flattail (Smokey and the Lambic), Crux, Double Mountain (Peche Mode and Devil’s Kriek), Trinity, Russian River (Supplication), Mikkeller, Struisse, Hopworks, New Belgium, and More! Great sour beers on tap all weekend!”

Worthy Brewing (Bend): Since it’s Friday, they have their weekly Firkin Friday special getting tapped at 4pm today. For today they’ve taken a firkin of Prefunk Pale and added Topaz hops; once tapped they’ll sell $3 pints of it until it’s gone.

Upright Brewing (Portland) has a new beer out: Hop Konducta vol 1. It’s “…a session saison made in collaboration with brewers from Oersoep and Oedipus, two Dutch breweries. The guys were excited to use local ingredients, so we decided to use a base of Mecca Grade pils malt from central Oregon. It lends a distinct cucumber note that mixes well with the heavy hop load of Mt. Hood, columbia, liberty, and santiam, the last two varieties being employed as double dryhops. A pinch of rye accentuates the hop bite and makes for an appetizing finish. 4.3%”

  • McMenamins Hillsdale Brewery (Portland) had a fresh hop beer brewing earlier today: “These hops were picked this morning. That’s fresh! Be on the look out for Hop Maiden IPA coming soon to Hillsdale.”
  • 7 Devils Brewing (Coos Bay): They are going to be brewing a community-hopped beer: “Its almost time to brew the Coos Head Co-Hop again! But we need your backyard hops. Bring them in when they’re ready. You can pick them or bring in the whole bines in plastic bags. When we get enough, we’ll schedule a malt milling and hop picking work party and brew day.”
  • Laurelwood Brewing (Portland): Good news all around! “Alisha and Shane hit up the hop farms this AM for some Amarillos and Willamettes… These will go into a fresh-hopped version of our Free Range Red and an all-new kolsch we’re brewin’ for the Mount Angel Oktoberfest, respectively. Special thanks to our amazing local hop farms, Goschie Farms, Inc. and Crosby Hop Farm!! P.S. The word around the NE brewpub is fresh-hopped Workhorse IPA will make its way on tap tonight or tomorrow!”
  • Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Their Fresh Hop Pilsner is out! “Fresh Hop Pilsner is a hop lover’s delight, the freshly harvested Perle hops impart floral and sweet fruit notes to this special edition Pilsner. The beer presents a deep golden hue and white foamy head with a delicate floral and spicy nose. A pronounced malt body and slight sweetness complement flavors of mango, papaya, and spice that end with a crisp hop finish. Combined, this makes for a refreshing late summer brew. (ABV: 7.3% IBU: 54)”
  • Hop Valley Brewing (Springfield) has a Centennial fresh hop beer brewing up: “They’ll be used to produce our delicious Hop Fresh Pale Ale that will be brewed this afternoon – super fresh! Shout out to Cody Parker and his team at Melrose Hop Farms for all of their hard work to make this possible.”
  • Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville) has brewing: “Amarillo fresh hops from Crosby Hop Farm! Releasing September 10th 2015.”
