Oregon BeerHere’s the beer news from around Oregon for Tuesday, the 27th of August. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Today is the Lucky Lab‘s hop harvest in Portland (an event I’ve been talking about a lot, I know) for their annual “Mutt” fresh hop beer; this is an event I’d love to participate in some year as it has just a great sense of community. Plus, beer of course. “Join us August 27th for our annual Hop Harvest Party on the patio at the Hawthorne Pub. The picking starts at 4 p.m. We will have the usual BBQ fired up for those that help us pick hops for our fresh hop beer, “The Mutt”. Call Ben at the Quimby Brewery (503-517-4352) if you need to make hop drop-off arrangements.”

The Green Dragon (Portland) is hosting a special tasting of the Widmer/Cigar City collaboration “Gentlemen’s Club” beers, all three variants, tonight starting at 5pm: “This is probably the only place in Oregon that you can get all three brews on draft except Widmer’s opening launch so don’t miss out on your chance to taste all three of this special beers at the same time.” The three beers are the Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged, Bourbon Barrel Aged, and New Oak Aged; the beer itself is 9.5 to 10.5% abv (depending on the barrel) and is a Strong Ale inspired by the “Manhattan” cocktail I believe. This is probably a tasting not to be missed!

Cascade Brewing (Bend): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday event at 6pm at the Barrel House is featuring “Live” Tawny Port. “This NW style spiced red ale was rum barrel aged for 19 months. Sweet aromas of dark grapes, dates and port are noticed at first. Flavors of dark fruits, grape skins and tart dark cherries mingle on the palate with hints of sweet chocolate. The finish is of rich dark figs, dates, grapes and berries. This makes a great sour nightcap. Bring a driver, it’s 12.5%!”

Fire Cirkl (White City) has some new beer/braggot offerings hitting the market: “Naughty Heather made it to store shelves early this month, and Summit beverage accepted the first run of One-Eyed Ginger for distribution yesterday. One-Eyed Ginger is a Saison style ale with a twist. Instead of hops, we add a measured amount of ginger, providing a subtle background flavor rather that spicy pepperiness. True to a strong version of Saison style ales, One-Eyed Ginger has a moderate lemony tartness contributed by the yeast. We add wheat to the grist (the grains used in the mash). The malt character is smooth, and she is highly attenuated (92 %) resulting in a light body, very dry finish, and an ABV of 8.3 %. We hope you enjoy it!”  Definitely some interesting things coming out of this (remote) brewery (braggoty?).

De Garde Brewing (Tillamook) has bottles of their own being released this Thursday, at Tin Bucket in Portland: “Mulligan bottles are headed to Portland. We are releasing the bulk of the bottles at Tin Bucket, and will be in attendance from 5-7pm. Just over 200 bottles of our favorite hoppy batch to date. They should go quickly!” Mulligan is their India Wild Ale aged in gin barrels, with Citra and Polaris hops used—and yes, I imagine they will go very quickly!

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) has one of the first pumpkin ales of the season going on tap! “Big Black Jack is Back! Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter…need I say more? Tonight, 6pm at the Public House.” Time to start the Pumpkin Beer Watch…
