Oregon BeerHere is the beer news from around Oregon for Wednesday, the 26th of August. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Alameda Brewing (Portland) is celebrating their 19th anniversary today all day long, with an amazing beer deal: “We’re gonna party like it’s 1996 with $1.90 pints ALL DAY! We’ll do a huge raffle with some great giveaways and swag from 7pm-9pm and recognize many on our crew who have worked so hard to bring us this far! We want to see you there to celebrate with us and take home some awesome gear and prizes! Cheers to 19 years!” Congrats on 19, and here’s to 19 more!

McMenamins Crystal Ballroom (Portland) has a special beer tasting today taking place at Ringler’s Pub from 5 to 9pm: Dying Embers Imperial Stout. “The song, “Cold Old Fire,” by Dublin, Ireland, folk band Lynched, inspired this dark concoction. It’s meant to evoke grey days in Dublin & memories of good times and bad spent by a fire, whose flame, like a glass of tasty, strong beer, inevitably will disappear. We sought out flavors to mimic the atmosphere of sitting around the “dying embers of a cold old fire.” Tao of Tea’s pine-smoked black tea provides the smoke, while organic habanero peppers provide the slight heat. Wintergreen leaves bring up the last note on the palette, signifying the chill that sneaks up like a thief around such a scene. Stout and black tea-well, in terms of Dublin, they sort of speak for themselves, don’t they?” Yum!

McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro) has their monthly Roadhouse Beer Invitational going on tonight from 6 to 9pm, featuring “Other Hoppy Beers” as the theme—ISAs, IBAs, and IRAs. They are featuring four specialty beers from CPR and other McMenamins breweries on tap at happy hour prices—make sure to try them all! These include: Hop Blossom Lager from CPR; Red Rhino from the Crystal Brewery; Hopcandy Strong Ale from the High Street Brewery in Eugene; and Check Your Head IRA from the Thompson Brewery in Salem. Don’t miss it.

And McMenamins’ The Rams Head in Portland has a special beer tasting today from 5 to 7pm, featuring New Horizons Blend: “A Russian imperial stout aged for three months in a whiskey barrel and blended with our company stout. This beer is blacker than black with a whiskey nose and a malty finish. With accents of charred whiskey barrel this beer is sure to leave your pallet tingling.” This is from the Highland Brewery in Gresham with brewer Karl Lorentson on hand to talk about the beer.

Bailey’s Taproom (Portland) is hosting California’s Heretic Brewing for a tap takeover at The Upper Lip today. Featured beers on tap will include “7 Sins Saison, Tafebully, Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, Red IPA, Petit Rouge, and Evil Cousin.”

The Platypus Pub (Bend) tonight is hosting Washington’s Backwoods Brewing for a tasting with the brewery’s Jordan Tanasse from 6 to 8pm. There will be a number of beers to sample plus the Platypus will have Backwoods’ Logyard IPA on tap.

The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release is featuring a big 8.1% abv beer: Oubliette Black CDA. “This week’s release from the Brew Crew and guest brewer Dylan VanDetta is an award-winning Cascadian Dark Ale. How dark is it? Dylan reached back thousands of years into medieval history to name his creation. An oubliette is a type of dungeon where the only way out was through the roof. It dates back to 14th century France and roughly translates as the “forgotten place.” These were dark places indeed. We assure that you despite a recipe that includes six types of hops, a flavorful palate of chocolate and coffee, plus a citrusy aroma, there’s nothing dark or sinister about Oubliette Black CDA (except for the color.) All it takes is one taste and you’ll discover that this one homebrew you’ll never want to forget.”
