Here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, August 25. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

With the amount of smoke in the air as a constant reminder of how bad this year’s fire season is, it’s good to see some Oregon breweries stepping up to show appreciation for the hard-working firefighters out on the lines. Eugene’s Ninkasi Brewing is teaming up with Maletis Beverage to launch “Funds for Firefighters,” donating $5 of every Ninkasi keg sold the Portland area during the month of September to Portland Firefighters’ Association, Local 43.

And Bend’s Boneyard Beer posted today a fantastic growler fill deal for firefighters: “In an attempt to thank you for everything you do, we will be filling growlers for .25 cents for all credentialed firefighters through the end of August! Come on in and get some beer…you deserve it!” Great job all around!

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Their anniversary Black Butte XXVII has been on tap for awhile now, but the bottles are only today now available for sale: “It’s going to be a good day. In all its beauty, our Black Butte XXVII Birthday Reserve has arrived & is for sale today! Come celebrate Community Pint Day and don’t miss out on this imperial bourbon aged porter offered in 22oz bottles.”

Upright Brewing (Portland) has a new beer on tap now, a draft only named Table Flipper: “It follows the Upright Lite in using a large amount of adjuncts that are often shunned by craft brewers, but the truth is making and drinking beers like this are fun! Think of the Table Flipper as an imperial Lite or a malt liquor, depending on your comfort level. 6.1%”

Fresh hop beers are brewing brewed right now (and some are even out already!), so here’s a rundown of hop and fresh hop related item I’ve come across today:

• Santiam Brewing (Salem): “120 pounds of hops picked an hour ago are about to hit the kettle. Hoppy Froppy Fresh Hop Pale Ale underway for the fouth year straight.”
• Leikam Brewing (Portland): They are doing a community fresh hop beer: “We are getting ready to harvest and make our community fresh hop September 1st. If you have organic hops growing in your yard you would like to contribute, shoot us an email at info @ leikambrewing.com for more details.”
• Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters): They are brewing at least their second batch already: “Just picked up another load of fresh Centennial hops. Brewing up another batch of Conelick’r. Go brewer Jordan go!”
• Mazama Brewing (Corvallis) has “Just added freshly picked Centennial hops to the boil!”
