This Saturday, August 22, is the latest Beers Made by Walking taking placing in Portland. It will be taking place at Balch Creek and featuring brewers from Hopworks Urban Brewery, 10 Barrel, and Widmer Brother Brewing; it will be a four mile hike lasting from 9am until noon. As of right now it’s 63% booked so if you want to go on that walk, sign up now!
Don’t forget, Mondays are “Growler Mondays” at all McMenamins locations, where you can fill a growler for only $8 of that location’s featured beer for the day. For instance, at the Old St. Francis School here in Bend, the fill special is Homesteader’s Pre-Prohibition Lager, a great beer that was brewed up to help commemorate a certain Bend Beer book signing… you get the picture. Check your nearest McMenamins on Facebook for today’s special near you.
And this Sunday, August 23, McMenamins and Hair of the Dog Brewing is holding a public wake for the late Fred Eckhardt, from 2 until 6pm, at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in Portland. Brewpublic has the details about the event and the call for photos from McMenamins: “Many of details are currently being worked out and organizers desperately need your photos of Fred to be shown at the Celebration. Photos of Fred can be emailed to email@example.com. During this event friends of Fred will be sharing stories on how he influenced their lives and what we now see in the modern craft beer movement. The event will feature beers from Hair of the Dog and McMenamins with proceeds going to a selected charity. Hair of the Dog will be pouring Fred and Blue Dot IPA and McMenamins Crystal Brewery will have its Bavarian-style Hefeweizen.”
