Oregon Beer News, 07/17/2017

Oregon BeerHappy Monday! Here’s the news in Oregon beer to start this new week of July 17. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Corvallis Nectar Creek Mead today for the release of Nectarade: “Enjoy a quenching release from the makers of fine session meads: Nectarade is dosed with lemon and lime for a classic, lip smacking mead experience. Come in for some samples with Michelle! We’ll have Nectarade and Waggle wildflower mead on tap too.” The events takes place from 5 to 7pm. When you blend a beer and soda/juice it’s called a shandy, but what do you call it when mead is blended that way?

Belmont Station (Portland): Their annual Puckerfest returns this week! This 11th annual celebration of wild and sour beers runs from Tuesday, July 18 through next Monday, July 24. Here’s what you should know: “1. To help expidite service, PUCKERFEST IS A CASH ONLY EVENT. There is an ATM on site, but please consider bringing extra cash. The bottle shop will offer both cash and credit at all times.
2. Most beers will be on tap during all business hours (until the keg kicks!) unless otherwise noted. Times in the listings indicate when brewers and other special guests will be in house.
3. There is no entry fee for Puckerfest. Just come on in and order up!
4. Sharing is encouraged so you can try more of these amazing beers, so bring some friends.
5. As usual, kids are welcome in the biercafe from open until 7 PM. Kids are welcome in the bottle shop all hours.”

McMenamins celebration of Oregon Craft Beer Month continues with a new week-long beer special: IPAs! “The entire month is officially dedicated to celebrating the craft brewing phenomenon that started here in Oregon more than 30 years ago. All our Oregon McMenamins locations will offer $4.50 pints all day (excluding brewmasters reserve & high-gravity beers), every day, on a certain brewing style.” As IPA is everyone’s favorite style I expect this week will be popular for McMenamins.

Vertigo Brewing (Hillsboro): New beer alert! “It’s finally here. Today we tap the first keg of our Fresh Razz Wheat. 270 lbs of fresh raspberries went into the fermenter. This is a once a year brew and always goes fast. Taproom opens at 4:00. Hope to see you soon.” Get on it!

Laurelwood Brewing (Portland) is hosting Books For Beer today: “We’re teaming up with the Friends of the Multnomah County Library to support the Multnomah County Library! On Monday, July 17th, bring a book to either of these two Laurelwood Pub locations (at any time while the pub is open): NE Portland Pub; 5115 NE Sandy BLVD; SE Portland Pub; 6716 SE Milwaukie AVE. Adults receive one free beer with the book donation and any child that brings a children’s book to donate will get one free root beer! From 5 to 8PM, Friends staff and board members will be on site at both locations to sell books and memberships.”
