Oregon Beer News, 07/11/2012

Oregon BeerBit of a slow news day yesterday in the Oregon beer news world, hopefully today it will (or I will!) do better! The news for Wednesday the 11th of July is below, and as usual I’ll be periodically updating this post with the latest news as I find it so check back often for updates. If you have news to share please contact me and I can get it updated.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is continuing to celebrate Oregon Craft Beer Month with the second of their dual tap takeovers taking place today with Eugene’s Oakshire Brewing and Portland’s Burnside Brewing: “We will be tapping rare and small batch beers from Eugene’s own Oakshire Brewing and Burnside Brewing from Portland! Here’s a sneak peek @ the taplist: Oakshire – ’25’ Imperial Oregon Ale(brewed to celebrate the OBF 25th Anniversary), Save the Farmhouse, Framboise, Line dry Rye, Perfect Storm DIPA, and ‘Fair’ly Special Bitter(made just for the Country Fair). Burnside – Oatmeal Pale, IPA, Kolsch w/lime zest and lemongrass, Smokey the Beer(S’mores inspired beer), Thundar the Bavarian(Bavarian-style Hefe), Bourbon Stout on NITRO. Sample Flights available. Beers will be on tap all day, Meet the Brewer session will start @ 6pm, cheers to Oregon craft beer!”

McMenamins North Bank (Eugene) is featuring a limited-edition beer tasting all day today (while it lasts on Blastonium Stout: “Here’s a nitro only stout with a blast of rich roasty flavors to satisfy the devout stout drinkers out there. Notes of French roast coffee in the aroma give way to a silky smooth chocolate flavor in the finish. The light hopping rate and high finishing gravity make a solid framework to highlight the richness of the dark malts. The smoothness from the nitro tap rounds it all out to provide the ultimate stout drinking experience. Enjoy!” It’s a drinkable 5.16% abv, not to heavy for this summer heat.

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Bend’s GoodLife Brewing today for a tasting and meet the brewer from 6 to 8pm. “Join the GoodLife crew as they pour tastes of Mountain Rescue Dry-Hop Pale Ale and Descender IPA in the store. We’ll have some fun drafts in the Cafe so keep an eye on this event.” Descender IPA is the newly-available bottled offering from GoodLife, joining their Pale. As for “fun drafts” there are a number of other tasty GoodLife beers these could be; swing by and check ’em out! (And shortly after I updated this, found this on Facebook: “We are bringing a special, experimental keg tonight and we aren’t going to tell you what it is but we’ll give you a hint: It’s ‘really good!'”)

The Green Dragon (Portland) is having a Green Dragon Brew Crew release tonight featuring “Barry the Honey Dragon”: “A deceptively strong pale ale fortified with copious amounts of clover honey and strawberries. This light-bodied ale is perfect for a hot summer day with its underlying floral notes and hints of tropical fruit for a crisp and refreshing finish.” The beer is 6.7% abv, and the release starts at 5pm.

Block 15 (Corvallis) is today releasing their Belgian-style blonde Wandelpad in bottles today, which will be sold in Eugene and Portland (and from the brewery I’m quite sure) for $4 per 375ml bottle. The Brewery also notes in a comment, “We plan for this to be available year round after we see how it ages in the bottle and make adjustments if needed.”

Check out this picture of the Pfriem Family Brewery—that’s a really nice, attractive space they’ve built out, and looks really good! That will be a great place to visit in Hood River once they’re officially open.
