Oregon BeerHere is the news in Oregon beer for Thursday, the 7th of July. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) recently collaborated once again with Idaho’s Payette Brewing to brew up another vegetable beer (their first being Potato Gun Idaho Potato Ale)—this time, they are using… carrots! From the press release: “…a new brew that will have you seeing liquid gold. We’re not talking about Yukon Gold though, we’re talking about 24 Karat, a Pale Ale brewed with 50 lbs of organic carrots. The beer is an aggressive and earthy Pale Ale made with organic carrots and organic NW Cascade and Ahtanum hops. The beer is 6% ABV, and 65 IBUs with an additional 24 CBUs (Carrot Bittering Units).” They’ll be holding the release party on July 15 from 6 to 9pm, at C Bar in Portland.

Breakside Brewery (Portland): They have the return of their Passionfruit Sour Ale to draft and bottles as their official summer seasonal, and a new beer, Post-Time Kolsch, hitting the market as well. With Passionfruit Sour they will be holding several release parties, including the bottle release at Belmont Station’s Puckerfest next week, two releases upcoming in Bend and one in Seattle.

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has a limited-edition beer tasting today starting at 5pm, featuring Double Barrel Baltic Porter: “This dark, chocolatey, organic lager bomb is a blend of the same base beer- a smooth, malty Baltic Porter- aged in both Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Billy Whiskey barrels and Edgefield Distillery Hogshead Whiskey barrels. All 8 barrels were then blended and kegged to create a unique fusion of flavors from vanilla to oak to toffee and beyond. This lager drinks like a much lighter beer but packs a ton of flavor, enjoy!”

Culmination Brewing (Portland) and Yachats Brewing (Yachats) collaborated on a Saison—which they aptly named Surfing Saison—and tonight is the tapping party taking place at Culmination’s Portland brewery from 5 to 7pm: “Have a Beer with a Brewer! Charlie Van Meter, Head Brewer at Yachats Brewing and Tomas Sluiter, Founder and Brewmaster at Culmination will both be present at this event! The Surfing Saison is a dry hopped summer saison and Thursday night will be the first time ever for us to tap this beer!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) has San Francisco’s 21st Amendment Brewery in the house tonight for a tasting from 5 to 8pm: “Get your summertime on with 21st Amendment’s Down to Earth Session Ale and Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Ale! We’ll be pouring pints while a rep is pouring free samples!”

And at The Green Dragon tonight, the featured brewer for their weekly meet the brewer event is Jamie Rodriguez of Hopworks Urban Brewery: “Hopworks is a brewery with a mission. They offer handcrafted organic beers and fresh, local ingredients, all served in sustainably-built and operated buildings with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. But how does the beer taste? Come find out this Thursday night when Jamie brings five of Hopworks best brews to the Green Dragon.” Starts at 5pm.

The Platypus Pub (Bend) is hosting a tasting with California’s Anderson Valley Brewing tonight from 6 to 8pm, with “Heelch o’ Hops and Highway 28 Gose” on tap as well as samples being poured by the AVBC rep.
