Oregon Beer, Monkless Belgian AlesHappy National Scotch Day! Scotch is a type of whiskey which is made from malted barley so of course it’s a perfect hand-in-hand pairing with beer to look for today. Which could be a great way to kick off the weekend!

Here is the news for this final weekend in July, and remember, this will be the last Oregon beer news post for a few weeks as I’m taking August off from the daily updates. (Summer break!) Among the other happenings for this weekend, the Oregon Brewers Festival is going strong in Portland through Sunday and definitely worth a visit if you’re in Portland. Let’s get on to the rest!

Friday, 7/27

Monkless Belgian Ales (Bend) has bottled up its Belgian-style Tripel, The Trinity, for the first time and Friday the 27th is the bottle release (which will continue through Saturday). “Get your first chance at our classic Tripel in cellar-ready bottles! We will pour free bottle tasters at 5 & 6:30 pm! This little angel drinks smooth for the 8.1% she packs with notes of tropical fruit & spice. Compare the bottle-conditioned version with draft Trinity or to its dry-hopped cousin, Capitulation, for a fun taste test!”

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a beer tasting for Lord of Misrule 2017, the acclaimed barrel-aged imperial stout from the Edgefield Brewery: “Join us as we celebrate Christmas in July by tapping kegs of McMenamins 2017 Lord of Misrule and the 2018 Prince of Fools. Lord of Misrule was first brewed at McMenamins Edgefield in 2014. Every year since, the brewery has changed the recipe, making it one of our most creative and sought after barrel-aged beers. The 2017 vintage is a creamy Imperial Breakfast Stout aged in Hogshead Whiskey barrels and blended with barrel-aged organic maple syrup. It’s malty with a touch of sweetness and notes of oats, coffee and oak.” The tasting takes place from 6 to 8pm.

Hood River’s pFriem Family Brewers will be at the Lake Grove Zupan’s Market in Lake Oswego from 3 to 6pm for a beer tasting of the private-label Farm-to-Market Northwest IPA pFriem brewed for Zupan’s Markets.

Roscoe’s (Portland) is kicking off its weekend-long All-Oregon Craft Beer Summit on Friday: “Join Roscoe’s on Friday July 27th at 2pm in celebrating the amazing breweries of Oregon. An awesome selection of 20 rare, seasonal, and one-off beers will be on tap from some of our favorite Oregon Breweries. Great Oregon beers will be on tap all weekend long!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is welcoming Three Creeks Brewing out of Sisters to celebrate Three Creeks’ 10th anniversary with a party: “We are celebrating 10 years of Three Creeks beers on Friday, July 27th! From 5-7pm there will be birthday presents for you to open and of course there will be cake too. Tap List: 10th Anniversary Double IPA, Crowd Pleaser IPA, Stampede Strong Ale, 5 Pine Chocolate Porter, and McKay Scottish Ale.”

Saturday, 7/28

Bailey’s Taproom in Portland is celebrating it’s 11th anniversary and they are throwing a Barrel-Aged Beer Fest! “The city granted us street access which allows us to connect Bailey’s Taproom to The Upper Lip for the day so patrons can roam freely between two stories of our Barrel-Aged Beer bonanza. We’ll also debut this year’s Anniversary Ale, a special blend from our good friends in Seattle, Reuben’s Brews! Their brewing team masterfully blended a Red Wine Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout with a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Belgian Strong Dark on cherries for a luscious beverage that’s sure to please. Access to all 28 Barrel-Aged beers is free, 21+, and goes from noon – 11pm on Saturday, July 28th. Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of thirst-quenching beers on, too!”

Imperial Bottle Shop (Portland) is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a party starting at 2pm Saturday. There will be three special anniversary beers pouring from Lodgsdon, Block 15, and Pono Brewing, as well as some cellared fourth anniversary beer from Culmination. Be sure to swing by and check out the party if you’re around!

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop is hosting a free wine tasting Saturday from 2 to 8pm, with Gruet and House Sparkling Wines.

Wolves & People Brewery (Newberg) has the can release party for El Verso IPA on Saturday: “Introducing EL VERSO, Batch 1: A hazy farmhouse IPA brewed with foraged linden blossoms in 16oz cans! We crafted this beer with a simple grain bill of pilsner malt, malted wheat, & oats for a nice, juicy texture. Then, in the kettle, we added a heaping harvest of fresh Linden blossoms from farmer Patty Hall of B&P Hill Farm just a few miles from the brewery, on Parrett Mountain. Linden blossom, also known as Lime blossom, is an ancient fragrant tree flower with a pronounced lime perfume character adding a delicate flowery-citrus note to the beer. A nice dosing at the end of the boil with Mosaic hops, along with bountiful dry-hopping of Enigma, Mosaic, and Simcoe makes this beer hugely aromatic, containing little bitterness, and containing maximum flavor! With a mixed Belgian and domesticated yeast culture, El Verso is a supremely quaffable IPA wafting waves of the entire citrus family, orange blossom, and something like a fresh, cold piña colada. Batches two and three of El Verso, each in a new formulation, come later this summer. As ever, label art by the incomparable Jason Sturgill! Come on out!” It takes place from 2 to 4pm.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland) is going Dutch for the day at Sidebar starting at 4pm: “We’re going Dutch again! Bart-Jan from Oproer is in Lompoc, Oregon and we’re ready to party. Join us Saturday at Sidebar for a special Dutch tap list. Proost!” Oproer is pouring at the Oregon Brewers Festival this weekend.
