Oregon Beer News, 06/25/2012

Oregon BeerIt’s Monday and time to kick off another week of Oregon beer news! As usual I’ll be periodically updating this news post throughout the day, so check back for the latest updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I’ll get it posted.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) has a new Brewer’s Share beer out today: Chris’s Summer Delight Berliner Weiss. “After careful and numerous tastings [Brewer Chris Haveman’s] beer was pronounced delicious. The beer is dry and crisp with a slight tartness and flashes of lemon. On a hot summer day this is the ultimate outdoor beer. It is traditionally enjoyed in Berlin beer gardens with splash of sweet red berry syrup or a green herbal syrup that work well against the tart and acid flavors of the beer. Try Chris’s beer at Full Sail’s Tasting Room & Pubwith some of the syrups made from local fruits by our kitchen staff. ABV 4%. IBU 9.” In addition to draft, the beer is being released in limited 22-ounce bottles.

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale): Brewer Christina Canto is moving on from the Edgefield, and today is her last day: “She has been a valuable member of our team since she came on board in 2010. In that time, she has created some very well received beers and we will miss her creative and positive energy dearly.  Good luck in your new adventures Christina, we are tipping a pint in your direction today, and look forward to meeting up for pints in the future.” I enjoyed the Bellini Cream Ale she brewed for the Oregon Garden Brewfest and Edgefield always has interesting beers for their tastings. Don’t know where she’ll land (yet), but good luck!

Phat Matt’s Brewing (Redmond): They’ve been building out a new tasting room in the same building that they’re brewery is located, and this Friday the 29th they are holding the grand opening, from 5 to 10pm featuring live music and, I’m quite sure, beer! They brewery and tasting room is located at 580 Hemlock in Redmond. And, if you happen to see the Phat Matt’s Tasting Van out and about (check out those tap handles), take a picture and share it on Facebook!

Belmont Station (Portland): Tonight from 6 to 8pm they have a cider event, a tasting and meed the maker with Reverend Nat’s. “Nat West is handcrafting ciders in Northeast Portland, and he’ll be joining us to share samples of his Revival Dry Cider, Deliverance Ginger Cider (both available for sale), as well as giving you a sneak preview of a couple new varieties he’s working on. Deliverence Ginger Cider on tap in the Biercafé.”

Angelo at Brewpublic has a fantastic article today about two new breweries coming to Southern Oregon within the next year or so: Swing Tree Brewing, Apocalypse Brewing; and a (hopefully) forthcoming draft house for Draper Brewing in Roseburg. There are a few craft beer outposts down south but not like Portland or Bend, so I’m quite sure these will be welcome additions. Go read the full article, it’s full of good interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff.
