Oregon Beer News, 06/22/2015

Oregon BeerHappy Monday! I hope you’ve recovered from the weekend, whether you were at the Oregon Garden Brewfest, wrapping up Portland and Medford Beer Weeks, or something else. Here’s the news for June 22; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland): Today they are holding their “Radler Ride,” a release party for the new Totally Radler, starting out at their BikeBar at 5pm: “We’re releasing our 100% Organic Totally Radler in 16 oz cans! To kick off the release, we’re planning a totally rad group bike ride, which will be led by our good pals at Portland Bike Club. Cyclists will meet at BikeBar at 5:00pm and ride away at 5:30. At 6:30 cyclists stop at the Portland International Raceway to sample Totally Radler and enjoy Short Track Races before heading back to BikeBar for a Totally Radler party at 8pm. Invite your friends!”

Belmont Station (Portland), as part of Oregon Cider Week, is hosting Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider today from 5 to 7pm to sample some ciders: “Rev. Nat’s Cidermaker Chris will be on hand to drink cider, talk cider and probably toss back a beer or two. A super rare keg of White Wine Barrel Aged Fresh Hopped Hallelujah Hopricot will be pouring in the biercafe, along with Revival and their blended beer-Tepache cider collabo with Mazama.”

Oregon Cider Week in fact continues this week, through Sunday the 28th, with several additional cider events taking place today, including:

Beers Made By Walking has their next Bend walk taking place this Wednesday, July 24th, featuring Deschutes Brewery and hiking in Sutton Mountain’s Black Canyon. Plan for what sounds like an all-day event, it’s listed from 8am to 5pm; you can register online here, though you’ll be on the waitlist. “The hike is an out-and-back with the option to hike up to 5 miles some rocky terrain and slight elevation gain. Inside the canyon should be a bit cooler, but be prepared for hot weather. Bring sun protection, sturdy shoes, lunch, plenty of water, a keen eye for flora and an appreciation for micro-brews.”

And then on Saturday the 27th, the Eugene Beers Made By Walking is taking place during the Living River Celebration on Green Island, and will be joining Agrarian Ales and Oakshire Brewing for their all-day hike.

There are a couple of Bend anniversaries taking place this Saturday, the 27th. First, Deschutes Brewery is celebrating their 27th anniversary from 4:30 to 10pm, with live music, a special toast by Gary Fish at 5:30, the new Black Butte XXVII plus flights of past years’ versions, 27 different beers on tap, swag and giveaways, food specials and more. It’s a big day for the brewery, and the Portland Pub will be throwing a party as well with all-day specials and beers. Don’t miss it!

And then Crux Fermentation Project is celebrating their 3rd anniversary this weekend with their annual Cruxapalooza party taking place all day long! “One of our favorite days of the year! Come celebrate our 3rd anniversary with us and enjoy community, live music all day long, tasty food and of course, BEER! We encourage carpooling and cycling to this event. SPECIAL ONE-OFF [BANISHED] BEERS: 1. Golden Sour—Crooked Stave Collaboration, 2. Bretted Peaches and Pears Saison, 3. Viognier Sour.”

Hermiston Brewing Company (Hermiston): This very new (and fairly rural) brewery has a new beer out today: “Releasing the first Single Hop Beer Today. These beers will all feature a light and simple malt bill and a single hop variety to really showcase the flavor characteristics of each hop. Today’s beer Features Pekko, a new hop variety from the Yakima valley with a very clean, floral, citrus and minty flavor profile. Light, refreshing and Pleasingly hoppy and relatively sessional at 5.5% ABV! Great drink for a hot summer day”
