Oregon BeerHappy Friday and first day of summer Oregon beer news edition! I’ve got news for today and the weekend from around Oregon. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend) is celebrating their 25th anniversary this Saturday (tomorrow, the 22nd) starting with a 40-mile bike ride from Black Butte to Mirror Pond (two prominent Central Oregon features their flagship beers are named after) in the morning, followed by their 25th Anniversary Party in the Park from 1 to 9pm in Bend’s Drake Park. “Join us for a day filled with family friendly activities, live music, local food vendors, and Deschutes beer, of course! Help us celebrate 25 years of making some tasty craft beer on the banks of Mirror Pond. The party will feature live musical acts including local bands Precious Byrd & ElektraPod plus Andy Frasco & The U.N. and Talking Heads tribute band, Naïve Melodies. Headlining the celebration is legendary Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Look for some extra fun from local companies like Bend Circus Center and Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe will be offering free demos.”  There will also be super-special beers going on tap at various times throughout the day, including a keg of Black Butte XXV that will be arriving via canoe… no kidding! It’s going to be a great party!

GoodLife Brewing (Bend) has a couple of things going on tonight and tomorrow, including their own anniversary! Tonight their Biergarten is opening for the summer starting at 6pm and featuring live music and GoodLife beer (of course!). And tomorrow, the Biergarten will be hosting their 2nd anniversary party from 5 to 10pm: “The Biergarten will be open with DJ Pandora playing on the ones and twos, while people enjoy our new Bocce Ball, Corn Hole, and Ladder Ball courts. We’ll also be digging deep into the cooler and bringing out some specialty beers that you wont want to miss!” It’s definitely a good weekend to be in Bend!

16 Tons in Eugene has teamed up with Portland’s The Commons Brewery for 16 Tons’ 3rd anniversary with a special bottle release, starting at 3pm tomorrow (Saturday): Fishing with Hallet. “At 3pm Josh from The Commons will be pouring samples of Hallet and other beers. We will have The Commons highly regarded Fruit Beer Fest entry Bier Royale on tap among others.” The other beers pouring will include “Bier Royale, Walnut, Kindred (Widmer Collaboration X-114 Beer).”

Sunday The Commons will be tapping a keg of Fishing with Hallet in their tasting room starting at 2pm. Here’s the “about” for the beer, which sounds pretty amazing: “Belgian Dark Strong aged in 2nd use Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon barrels with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis and was brewed in honor of Sixteen Tons 3rd Anniversary. Bottles are limited and are $14 each.”

Fire Mountain Brew House (Carlton): This Sunday the 23rd they are releasing a special one-time bottling: “Sunday June 23rd we are releasing our CARLTON LAGERED ALE! This is our KOLSCH Style. Lagered at 29deg. F. this is a one time brew for bottling. Our Kolsch is brewed old school of 150 years or so before the modern rules were in place for brewing Kolsch. German malt and hops plus hops of Oregon and Czech Saaz give this Kolsch a hint of pear and a refreshing nose and aftertaste. We are limited on the amount of cases produced. Come see us on Sunday.”

McMenamins Barley Mill Pub (Portland): Tomorrow, Saturday the 22nd, is the Barley Mill’s 30th birthday! This is the one that started it all—“opened in 1983 as the initial joint venture between brothers Mike and Brian McMenamin”—so they’re having a party all day long. “We’re celebrating 30 years at the Barley Mill! Join in the daylong free festivities – food specials, live music from Transcendental Brass Band and the never-before-offered “Foundation Note” birthday beer. Oh, and did we mention there’d be cake? It’s only right; our humble company is 30 years old!” This will be a good one! Check it out if you can.
